South Coast Pediatrics has been serving patients in the Orange County community with empathy, kindness, caring and respect for over 39 years. Our medical practice has three medical offices, which are located in Santa Ana and Anaheim. The medical practice provides preventive medicine, sick and urgent care services seven days a week. We’re affiliated with over 10 health plans and serve over 16,000 patients providing thousands of visits a year. Our physicians and staff are committed to provide the highest standard of patient care. We are looking to a new Medical Assistants (Back Office) for our weekday shift (no weekends required). The schedule will be Monday – Friday 10:00am – 7:00pm (Mid-Day Shift) and one day a week of doing a closing shift from 12:00pm - 9:00pm.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Medical Assistant is a member of the South Coast Pediatric team who functions under the direction, guidance and supervision of the Lead Medical Assistant and the Office Manager. The Medical Assistant works directly with the patients / parents and is required to input data into the NextGen electronic medical record. Requires administering vaccines, sight and hearing tests, use of the computer, telephones, scanners and copier. Demonstrates strong customer service and communication skills, which must be maintained with all patients and co-workers. Adhere to HIPAA and patient confidentiality requirements.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The main job responsibility of the Medical Assistant is to room patients for physicals and office visits; take and document vitals (height, weight, temperature and blood pressure) in a timely manner; administer vaccines; perform hearing and vision tests; hemoglobin; lead levels; urinalysis; TB test and document chief complaints when needed.
- Assist the physician as needed with medical exams, prep rooms and evaluate patients for immediate medical attention. Administer medications/injections/vaccines within the scope of the practice.
- Complete all EMR documentation, patient forms, and tasks on a timely basis
- Data entry of patient vitals and visit notes into EMR/EHR system (NextGen).
- Ensure that all exam rooms are clean, treatment areas and utensils/materials are sterilized , and fully stocked with necessary supplies daily.
- Perform ear lavage when requested by provider.
- Assist provider when necessary in translating Spanish into English.
- Print out lab orders for blood work as requested by provider.
- Schedule pickups for routine urine collection with Quest, Lab Corps or CMB.
- Maintain vaccine inventory and refrigerator temperatures
- Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
- Medical Assistant Certificate
- High School Diploma or GED
- Bilingual (English / Spanish)
- Working knowledge of computers/keyboarding with accurate typing
- Ability to pleasantly handle interruptions in work-tasks due to assisting patients and answering phone calls
PREFERRED:
- 6 months previous Medical Assistant experience
- Vaccine administration
- Knowledge of insurance plans
- Experience with NextGen or similar Electronic Medical Records system
- Medical Terminology
- Knowledge of insurance plans is helpful

Compensation for this role depends on a wide array of factors including but not limited to role, skill set, education and level of experience. As required by state or local law, SCP provides a reasonable pay scale to include the hourly or salary range that SCP reasonably expects to pay for this role as stated within this job posting.
