The SEL Support Specialist provides expert guidance and professional learning in the areas of mental health, social emotional learning, and trauma informed practices.

The Director / SEL Support Specialist is responsible for developing new relationships and partnerships with districts, schools, educational organizations, and non-educational organizations.

Duties may include, but are not be limited to : virtual learning, face-to-face workshops, blended learning training, PLC development, onsite visits, mentoring, school-wide assessments, and long-term planning and direct support to the Director of Programs and Support Services which includes collaborative efforts to improve schools tiered systems of support within SEL, mental health, Trauma practices, and attendance.

General Duties / Expectations

Specific Duties / Expectations

  • Conduct assessment and develop an action plan based on data collected utilizing sources such as the TRS-IA(Trauma Responsive Schools Implementation Assessment)
  • Coordinate, facilitate, and support professional learning opportunities for emotional and behavioral health, SEL and Trauma-informed practices (TIP) to local school districts, educational programs, and non-educational programs.
  • Develop trainings to support South Cook districts.
  • Complete required training.
  • Develop systems for building capacity and expanding sphere of influence for all programs of development.
  • Create, monitor, and keep detailed paper and digital records as appropriate for training.
  • Provide ongoing technical assistance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Regional Superintendent.
  • Provide a quantitative and qualitative data driven summary to update on progress towards goals to the SEL Hub team.
  • Participate in monthly meetings with the supervisor and team to discuss progress.

Qualifications

The Regional Superintendent reserves the right to modify any qualifications to ensure the best candidate is chosen to fulfill our mission of service to students, educators, and communities.

Education

  • Master’s Degree in a related field; Administrative experience preferred
  • Valid Illinois teacher licensure, social worker credentials preferred

Experience

  • Experience in social emotional learning, professional development, or other similar Background
  • Preferred experience with adult learners
  • Trainings in restorative practices
  • Training and / or experience with CHAMPS or other behavioral frameworks

Specific Skills

  • Ability to differentiate instruction to a wide range of learners (academic and social emotional)
  • Ability to work with a team
  • Ability to work independently following program vision and goals
  • Ability to multitask and manage time
  • Accurate record keeping
  • Knowledge of SEL related practices
  • Knowledge of best practices for professional learning
  • Knowledge of curriculum development
  • Ability to effectively use computer based programs (MS Office, Google, etc.)
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Licenses / Certificates
  • Valid Illinois drivers’ license
