South Dakota Mines invites applications for the position of Vice President for Finance and Administration (VPFA). This position reports to the President.
Position Overview As the university’s chief financial and administrative officer, the VPFA is responsible for advising the President on all relevant matters and is an active member of the President’s executive council. As a member of the executive council, the VPFA collaborates with other senior leadership to develop and execute the university’s budget and strategic plan. Areas of direct responsibility include Finance and Administration (accounting, budgets, payroll, student accounts / cashier’s office, procurement, campus dining, university bookstore, financial elements of capital and renovation projects, leasing and contracts), Human Resources (recruitment, position management, benefits, organizational and professional development, and employee relations), and Information Technology Services (information security, instructional media, web development, computer hardware / software support, and network infrastructure). The Vice President for Finance and Administration is the university’s representative on the South Dakota Board of Regents Business Affairs Council and works closely with local and state governmental officials and other external constituencies in matters of importance to South Dakota Mines.
Qualifications :
- A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, management, business administration, public administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university is required. A master’s degree is preferred.
- A minimum of five years of successful and progressive senior administrative leadership in finance and administration is required.
- Experience in higher education is preferred.
- Desired experience and attributes include : Strong knowledge of financial management principles and practices.Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex financial information clearly and effectively.Demonstrated ability to analyze financial data, identify issues, and develop solutions.Demonstrated ability to be a part of a senior leadership team committed to advancing the institutional mission and strategic plan;Strong leadership, collaboration, and team management skills.High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.Willingness to dig into issues and work collaboratively to resolve themIn-depth knowledge of the full range of issues addressed by a finance and administration executive in the higher education setting; including facilities, human resources, information technology, auxiliaries, business services, procurement and contractsStrong collaborative interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive and effective relationships across campus with administrators, faculty, staff, students and external constituents.
