The Department of Transportation Division of Planning & Engineering is looking for a motivated skilled individual to fill an Accountant position in Pierre, SD. This position is part of the Accounting/Auditing career family and would work with the Office of Project Development. The opportunity for career growth exists in this position. This position will prepare federal project authorizations, reconcile federal funds, complete various account reconciliations, prepare financial reports, and contribute to the development and maintenance of grant agreement term sheets and various internal accounting control policies and processes. Successful incumbents may assist with various other department accounting responsibilities.

License and Certifications:
A bachelors degree in accounting or related business degree with major coursework in accounting or finance.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
A Bachelors degree and 2 years of progressive accounting experience is preferred.
Knowledge of:
- governmental fund accounting;
- generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) standards;
- Microsoft Excel, Word, Query, and other desktop tools;
- FHWA policies and procedures (preferred but not required);
- federal funding agreements (preferred but not required).
Skill to:
- be a problem solver;
- work independently;
- prioritize work and meet deadlines.
Ability to:
- attend to all details of the assignment and complete work accurately;
- exercise sound prompt judgement;
- communicate information clearly and concisely;
- interpret rules and regulations;
- work within a team environment;
- establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
This position is eligible for Veterans’ Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
