Summary:
This position provides therapeutic recreation to patients on three adolescent treatment care units.
This position primarily works 9:00am - 5:30pm, occasional weekends with a rotating holiday schedule, according to the needs of the facility.
Licenses and Certifications:
Possession of or ability to obtain lifeguard certification is preferred.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Preference will be given to applicants who have a bachelor’s degree in therapeutic recreation or related healthcare field and experience working with clients who have mental illnesses or disabilities and experience leading or assisting with group activities or events.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation/related health field preferred or minimum of 2 years’ working experience within recreation therapy field.
- Experience working with clients who have mental illnesses or disabilities.
- Experience leading individual and group activities or events.
Knowledge of:
- mental illness and treatment techniques;
- principles of human development;
- assessment and documentation methods;
- therapeutic process and facilitation;
- treatment planning;
- leisure skills.
Ability to:
- plan, organize, and facilitate Therapeutic Recreation groups and individual sessions to address patients’ social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and spiritual needs related to maintaining quality of life;
- work with adolescents;
- work collaboratively with the treatment team and add therapeutic recreation input & recommendations;
- attend all required Therapeutic Recreation events, meetings, and trainings;
- mange time effectively;
- assist in other areas of the hospital when needed
- be a positive role model;
- be creative;
- drive a van for community outings;
- able to be physically active which may include swimming, running, jumping, bending, and lifting;
- obtain lifeguard certification;
- effectively communicate to supervisor & Activities Center Coordinator of any problems, questions, or concerns.
This position is eligible for Veterans’ Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
