Summary

This position provides therapeutic recreation to patients on three adolescent treatment care units.

This position primarily works 9:00 am - 5:30 pm, occasional weekends with a rotating holiday schedule, according to the needs of the facility.

Licenses And Certifications

Possession of or ability to obtain lifeguard certification is preferred.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

Preference will be given to applicants who have a bachelor’s degree in therapeutic recreation or related healthcare field experience working with clients who have mental illnesses or disabilities and experience leading or assisting with group activities or events.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation/related health field preferred or a minimum of 2 years working experience within the recreation therapy field.
• Experience working with clients who have mental illnesses or disabilities.
• Experience leading individual and group activities or events.

Knowledge Of

• mental illness and treatment techniques;
• principles of human development;
• assessment and documentation methods;
• therapeutic process and facilitation;
• treatment planning;
• leisure skills.

Ability To

• plan, organize, and facilitate Therapeutic Recreation groups and individual sessions to address patients’ social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and spiritual needs related to maintaining quality of life;
• work with adolescents;
• work collaboratively with the treatment team and add therapeutic recreation input & recommendations;
• attend all required Therapeutic Recreation events, meetings, and trainings ;
• mange time effectively;
• assist in other areas of the hospital when needed
• be a positive role model;
• be creative;
• drive a van for community outings;
• able to be physically active which may include swimming, running, jumping, bending, and lifting;
• obtain lifeguard certification;
• effectively communicate to supervisor & Activities Center Coordinator of any problems, questions, or concerns.

This position is eligible for Veterans’ Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
