TITLE: STEAM Teacher, Middle School
REPORTS TO: Building Principals and Director of Technology and Innovation
EXPECTATIONS: To assist in supporting the district’s vision to develop, and sustain world class STEAM courses to empower students with essential computational thinking skills and knowledge for creating effective solutions to tomorrow’s technology-based challenges in creating a sustainable connected world.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Educational credentials: Mathematics 7-12, 6-9, 4-8 Certifications also considered: BCIT K-12, Computer Science 7-12, Technology Education K-12, STEAM Letter of Endorsement
- 3.0 or higher QPA
- Proof of ongoing professional or educational experience
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Digital literacy
JOB GOALS:
- To teach, design, develop and sustain STEAM courses that ensure the quality of the curriculum and pedagogy presented to students meets the highest standards of quality and rigor.
- To work in partnership with the Director of Technology and Innovation to assist in providing leadership, vision and direction for STEAM in core curriculum areas.
- To create opportunities to facilitate, coach, and support the development and use of innovative curricular and connected learning initiatives in STEAM with District faculty.
- To work in partnership with the Director of Technology and Innovation to provide information and support to teachers, guidance counselors, administrators, and the community, in the most current college and career readiness skills for science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.
- To work with the Director of Technology and Innovation, the district STEAM team, and all stakeholders to coordinate mapping of departmental and K-12 vertically aligned computational thinking initiatives and STEAM learning.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Vision, and direction in building a progressive forward-thinking STEAM program to provide our students with the competitive edge necessary to be successful in the global community.
- Ability to program proficiently in multiple languages with an emphasis on Python and Java.
- Skilled with programming microcontrollers (Arduino, Raspberry PI, etc.) building prototypes, and working in the field of robotics.
- Understanding of algorithm analysis.
- Ability to develop a creative curriculum that shows the application of computer science and STEAM.
- Able to read, analyze, interpret and apply complex technical information.
- Strong written and oral communication skills with an ability to effectively communicate technical information to all stakeholders of the school.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with a strong customer service focus, user-centered attitude and a desire to work in a team-oriented environment.
- Highly ethical team player.
- Strong analytical and logical problem-solving skills with a proven ability to create result oriented action plans.
- High energy, self-starter with ability to successfully prioritize and multi-task in an atmosphere in which time sensitive deadlines are the norm, as are interruptions.

- Mastery in mathematics, science, or computer science content.

- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with faculty on multi-step and complex projects in a calm and positive manner and problem-solve when needed.

- Experience with numerous operating systems, Google Apps for Education, various software and hardware.
- A demonstrated ability to develop, implement and document curriculum.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Differentiates instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of all students in the classroom and to accommodate circumstances where a variety of projects are being worked on simultaneously.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior for an orderly, productive learning environment
- Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids, equipment, and supplies appropriate to the interest and maturity level of students and needs of the course; maintains required inventory records.
- Develops weekly lesson plans and instructional materials that foster and enhance learning, stressing discovery and inquiry.
- Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Encourages students to think independently and to express original ideas
- Assists students in selection and development of individual projects.
- Cooperates with school administration in developing programs and activities for the school and community.
- Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss individual student progress.
- Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
- Works with students and other classroom teachers in coordinating and encouraging participation in extracurricular and enrichment activities.

- Creates and maintains a safe, effective and functional environment for learning.
- Administers or monitors group tests and/or standardized tests in accordance with the district's testing program.

- Demonstrates computer literacy in using the administrative software program effectively to maintain and retrieve student information and attendance data and to maintain student grades and performance assessments (Canvas, PowerSchool).
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Terms of employment are in accordance with the agreement between the South Fayette Township Board of Education and the South Fayette Education Association.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated by the building principals and communicated to the superintendent for review.
