What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Health Services position at South Hadley Public Schools?
The director of health services position is responsible for planning, managing, overseeing the health services that are provided by the school district. The director supervises school health office staff and other related duties as required. The director also provides leadership in the effective implementation of school policies related to student health.
1.Collaborates with district administrators and oversees the school health services as well as provides training and orientation to all new health office staff.
2.Serves as Chair of the Health & Wellness Advisory Committee ( required for the CSHS grant and State Nutrition Program).
3.Serves as a member of the drug and alcohol coalition.
4.Complete all necessary CSHS Grant Management of Funds, DPH updates and networking/collaboration with nurse leaders across Western MA. (Which requires monthly and yearly reporting to DPH)
5.Communicates and collaborates with School Physician on all aspects of health services when needed and prepares standing orders for physician to sign yearly.
6.Attends all required to attend MDPH Regional Nurse Leader Meetings ( 4 per year)
7.Attends all required MDPH State Nurse Leader Meetings ( 3 per year)
8.Prepares district wide professional development for nurses to attend on professional development days set aside by the district.
9.Completes medication administration registration with DPH and Mass Controlled substance unit.
10.Oversees Epi Pen and narcan training for the school district.
11.Develops policy and procedure that is essential for providing health care for students in the district.
12.Provides a yearly report to the School Committee summarizing health services provided for the year.
13.Maintains health offices software utilization and updates and provides training as needed.
14.Participate, along with the school nurses, in the District Safety Planning and members of each school's Crisis Care Team.
15.Serves as a liaison for Superintendent of schools as well as a resource to the school nurses related to all aspects of school nursing.
16.Serves as a liaison between community partners such as police, fire department, local board of health as it pertains to school health services
