Homeschool Assistance Program (HSAP) Coordinator- Job Description South Hamilton Community School District
Purpose: Bridges the gap between education and home environments, facilitating communication, coordinating educational activities, and ensuring adherence to curriculum standards. Key tasks include meeting with parents, assisting with curriculum planning, and parent-teacher liaison.
Reports to: Superintendent
Requirements:
- Valid Iowa teaching license or substitute license/authorization required.
- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university required.
Responsibilities:
Program Development and Oversight:
- Develop and implement strategies to enhance the homeschool assistance program.
- Design and update program guidelines, policies, and procedures in the HSAP resources and forms to align with state regulations and district standards.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the homeschool assistance program (registration, processing orders, enrollment in on-site and/or concurrent enrollment courses, etc).
- Develops and regularly meets with a parent committee to evaluate program effectiveness and develop recommendations for improvement.
- Reports updates regularly to the Superintendent.
Communication and Collaboration:
- Serve as the primary point of contact between homeschooling families and the school district.
- Facilitate regular communication and collaboration between homeschooling families, teachers, and district staff.
- Establishes contact with the student and the student’s parent, guardian, or legal or actual custodian at least twice per 45 days of instruction, during which time the teacher practitioner fulfills the duties described below. One of every two contacts shall be face-to-face with the student. Maintains a log of visitations and assistance provided.
- Consults with and advises the student’s parent or guardian regarding instruction, resources, and assessment.
- Conduct informational sessions and workshops to educate parents on homeschooling requirements and available resources.
- Organize and facilitate field trips, enrichment classes, and community-building events for homeschool students.
Curriculum Support:
- Provide guidance to homeschooling families on curriculum selection, instructional materials, and educational resources.
- Providing formal and informal assessments of the student’s progress to the student and the student’s parent, guardian, or legal or actual custodian.
- Collaborate with district curriculum specialists to ensure alignment with state standards and district learning objectives.
- Coordinate access to district resources, including libraries, online materials, and extracurricular activities.
Compliance and Reporting:
- Ensure that homeschooling families comply with state regulations and district policies.
- Makes referral to the child’s district of residence for evaluation of a child who the practitioner has reason to believe may need special education.
- Maintain accurate records of homeschooling students, including assessments and progress reports.
- Prepare and submit required reports to state education authorities.
Student Evaluation and Assessment:
- Develop and implement processes for assessing the academic progress of homeschooling students.
- Collaborate with district assessment coordinators to facilitate standardized testing and other assessment tools for homeschooling students.
Professional Development:
- Stay informed about current trends and best practices in homeschooling and education.
- Share professional development opportunities to teachers and homeschooling parents to enhance their instructional skills.

- Other duties as assigned by the building principal and/or superintendent designee.
Terms of Employment: Pay and contract details to be established by the board.
Evaluation: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
