9 positions total available to teach at CTE Science Camp at Marcus Whitman Middle School, 7/14/2025 – 7/18/2025 from 8:30am – 2:30pm.

 

The Marine Science Teacher position will support 2025 Marine Science Camp program, which will take place from July 14, 2025 through July 18, 2025. Instruction will occur at Marcus Whitman Middle School for one week, Monday through Friday. Teacher training and preparation are scheduled for July 9-11, 2025. The approximate schedule is 8:30 am- 2:30 pm, with students in the building from 9:00 am- 2:00 pm from July 14-18, 2025.

 

The selected candidate will work a minimum of 53.5 hours to meet the needs of this program and will be compensated at their per diem rate of pay, inclusive of benefits, to be distributed on the August 2025 payroll. The tentative required commitment of hours is outlined as follows:

  • Days of Instruction = 32.5 hours (5 days of student instruction x 6.5-hour commitment per day)
  • Scheduled Teacher Training Hours = 14 hours (2 days of PD and training x 7-hour commitment per day)
  • Preparation Hours = 7 hours (1 day)

Teaching positions will be based on enrollment and may remain unfilled or canceled unless enrollment is sufficient for the program to be operational. Instructional sites may be combined if enrollment/staffing is insufficient for the program to be operational. 

 

The primary learning focus for the program is for current 5th-7th graders to bring STEM concepts to life and spark students’ curiosity in the future of space exploration.

 

Professional Qualifications:

  • Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate; Science or CTE STEM Endorsement middle or high school level preferred
  • Must be flexible, exhibit a commitment to accomplishment, possess outstanding communication and conceptual skills, demonstrate appropriate and positive student relationships, possess a strong professional orientation and be willing to actively participate in a team environment;
  • Demonstrated successful teaching experience at the middle school level; and a willingness and ability to utilize a variety of research-based effective instructional strategies, including an emphasis on reading skills;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of an integrated curriculum and a commitment to broaden knowledge in curriculum methods;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of new technologies and an ability to incorporate these into instructional programs;
  • Demonstrated compatibility with staff, program, and district goals;
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a positive attitude with students, self, and others.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Confer with summer coordinator to discuss program goals and course objectives;
  • Participates as a team member with responsibility for the education of a group of students throughout the summer program;
  • Delivers provided curriculum and oversees hands-on activities
  • Modifies instructional support to meet individual student needs;
  • Participates with other staff to cooperatively plan, develop, and implement designed instruction to achieve learning goals;
  • Utilizes innovative classroom techniques and methodologies that involve students in challenging learning opportunities;
  • Creatives active-learning experiences for students;
  • Provides positive assistance and guidance to a diverse population;
  • Reports student progress to parents and summer coordinator
  • Maintains student records in a timely, orderly fashion;
  • Provides instruction to students utilizing a variety of instructional strategies aimed at meeting individual student needs, and utilizing appropriate and available resources, including technology;
  • Participates in Marine Science Camp teacher training and orientation;
  • Participates in meetings as needed;
  • Works cooperatively with staff in an atmosphere of cooperation and collegiality.
