THE OFFICE OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION IS NOW REQUIRING ALL PARAEDUCATORS TO PROVIDE A COPY OF THEIR HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA AND/OR HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPTS OR GED TO MEET TITLE 1, PART A FEDERAL LAW REQUIREMENTS. PLEASE PROVIDE OUR OFFICE WITH A COPY PRIOR TO BEING THE SELECTED CANDIDATE.
Comments: This is an in-district posting for current South Kitsap School District employees ONLY.
The number of positions depends on student enrollment. These para positions will also accompany the students on a field trip during the week on day TBD.
Summary:
This paraeducator position will support 2025 CTE Science Camp teachers and curriculum developed for the CTE Science Camp program, which will take place from July 14, 2025, through July 18,2025. Instruction will occur at Marcus Whitman Middle School for one week, Monday through Friday. Paraeducator training and preparation are scheduled for July 9-11, 2025. The approximate schedule is 8:30 am- 2:30 pm, with students in the building from 9:00 am- 2:00 pm July 14 – 18, 2025.
The selected candidate will work a minimum of 35 hours to meet the needs of this program and will be compensated at the hourly rate listed above. The tentative required commitment of hours is outlined as follows:
- Days of Instruction = 25 hours (5 days of student instruction x 5-hour commitment per day)
- Scheduled Training Hours = 6 hours
- Unscheduled Preparation Hours = 4 hours (to be determined by program coordinator)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Works under both direct and indirect supervision using standardized routines;
- Leads, guides, and/or coordinates students.
- Participates in the Marine Science program orientation and training.
- Supervises students in the school setting for the purpose of maintaining and providing a safe and positive learning environment.
- Provides clerical and general classroom assistance for staff (e.g. collecting and inputting data, correspondence, copying, filing, preparing and organizing classroom materials) for the purpose of documenting student progress and providing general support for classroom activities related to learning goals and objectives.
- Assist with lunch and snack breaks.
- Participates as a team member with responsibility and safety for the education of a group of students throughout the summer program;
- Oversees hands-on activities
- Provides positive assistance and guidance to a diverse population;
- Works cooperatively with staff in an atmosphere of cooperation and collegiality;
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 20% sitting, 30% walking, and 50% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and a generally hazard free environment.
Education and Experience:
- High School graduate or equivalent;
- Completion of at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (72 quarter credits at 100 Course Level and above); OR completion of an Associate's (or higher) degree; OR have passed the State of Washington Para Pro Assessment;
- Job-related experience is desired.
Clearances:
- Washington State Patrol and FBI Fingerprint Background Clearance.
Certificates:
- First Aid/CPR Certification required;
- Valid Washington State Driver's License required (must be able to fulfill all traveling requirements of this position, including possessing and maintaining a valid license, clean driving record, and automobile insurance).
