We seek a skilled and enthusiastic educator well-versed in secondary science curriculums. The ideal candidate for the job should have profound knowledge of secondary science curriculums. They should have a strong understanding of the Next Generation Science Standards and framework. Additionally, the candidate should have experience in project-based learning or other flexible hands-on learning frameworks that support individual learning styles. The ideal candidate should be passionate about science education.
The CTE Summer Camp Pre-Planning Co-Curriculum Designer will develop, design, and/ or identify a one-week CTE Summer Camp curriculum for middle school students. The designed curriculum will be implemented during the one-week 2025 CTE Summer Camp, scheduled from July 14, 2025, through July 18, 2024. The primary objective of the CTE Summer Camp program is to introduce STEM concepts and ignite curiosity in science exploration among students currently in 5th-7th grade.
The selected candidate will work 30 hours to meet the needs of this program and will be compensated at their per diem rate of pay, to be distributed on the July 2024 payroll. The tentative required commitment of hours is outlined as follows:
- The CTE Summer Camp Pre-Planning Co-Curriculum Designer will be engaged in this work during March, April, May and June, 2025.
- On a monthly basis, the Pre-Planning Curriculum Designer will spend:
- 8 hours a month on curriculum design.
- 1 hour a month checking in with the CTE director and/or Camp Pre-planning Coordinator.
- 1 hour a month on designing a 2-day teacher training for the implementation of the designed CTE Summer Camp curriculum.
Professional Qualifications:
- Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate; Science or CTE STEM Endorsement middle or high school level preferred;
- Must be flexible, organized, exhibit a commitment to accomplishment, possess outstanding communication, collaboration and conceptual skills, demonstrate appropriate and positive student relationships, possess a strong professional orientation, and be willing to actively participate in a team environment;
- Demonstrated successful teaching experience at the secondary level; and a willingness and ability to utilize a variety of research-based effective instructional strategies, including an emphasis on reading skills;
- Demonstrated knowledge of an integrated curriculum and a commitment to broaden knowledge in curriculum methods;
- Demonstrated knowledge of new technologies and an ability to incorporate these into instructional programs;
- Demonstrated compatibility with staff, program, and district goals;
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering a positive attitude with students, self, and others.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with a Co-Curriculum Designer to collaboratively design, develop, and craft a comprehensive, standards-aligned middle school science curriculum for one week, encompassing four days of classroom instruction (approximately 4 hours of classroom instruction each day) and one day dedicated to a field trip;
- Collaborate with the CTE director and the Summer Science Pre-Planning Camp Coordinator to discuss program objectives, curriculum goals, and overall curriculum design progress;
- Create lessons that utilize innovative classroom techniques and methodologies, incorporate our local surrounding environment, and provide challenging learning opportunities for students;
- Develop lessons that encourage active learning experiences for students;
- Design instructional strategies that cater to different learning styles and promote hands on student engagement;
- Collaborate with the CTE Director and/or Summer Science Camp Pre-Planning Coordinator to plan a two day summer school science teacher training for implementation of the created science curriculum;
- While not mandatory, it would be an added advantage if the Curriculum Pre-Planning Designer were to join the summer science teaching team at one of the SKSD middle schools for the 2024 summer session.
