Job Description
SUMMARY
The Admissions Specialist works as a member of the Admissions and Records team and reports directly to the Dean of Enrollment Management. The Admissions Specialist is responsible for processing applications for admission and providing general college information to students in-person and through email and phone conversations. The development of a high level of knowledge regarding South Plains College’s academic and technical offerings as well as the College’s student services will be essential.
This position requires a professional appearance and demeanor as well as strong communication and computer skills. High energy and a positive approach to working with students and colleagues is a must. The individual must be customer service oriented and must work well in a team context.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Greets and assists students with general college information.
- Assists students with the college admission process.
- Assists with processing admission applications through CRM Recruit and Ellucian Colleague.
- Assists with student record keeping, the scanning of physical documents & records, student registration, and end-of-term processes.
- Assists with student demographic changes.
- Assists with verification and updates of student data.
- Assists with incoming student inquiries.
- Assists students with drop requests, withdrawals, and administrative drops.
- Assists with the posting of TSI scores and college readiness information.
- Maintains the confidentiality of student and course records.
- Assists with new student orientation & graduation processes.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Dean of Enrollment Management.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- A minimum of an Associate’s Degree (A.A., A.S., or A.A.S) from an accredited institution of higher education.
- Excellent computer skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Be able to communicate and effectively present information in one-to-one situations with students, visitors, faculty and other employees of the organization. Possess excellent public speaking skills and ability to project a positive image for the college.
LANGUAGE, WRITING AND REPORTING SKILLS
Be able to read and comprehend simple and complex instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Also be able to write simple correspondence and reports. Ability to write well, employing accepted principles of business communications, is preferred.
COMPUTER SKILLS
Experience necessary in applying current computer technology and software applications to essential responsibilities, duties, and tasks. Knowledge and experience with working with computers and software in a Windows environment. Proficient in Microsoft Office is essential.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measurement including the use of whole numbers, common fractions, percentages, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Be able to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS
Be able to work with a wide variety of people and participate as a team member to accomplish multiple projects and goals. Also be able to meet and greet the public in a positive and productive way.
ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS
Be able to organize tasks and activities essential to performing the specific duties and responsibilities of this job.
