South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) seeks a highly motivated and qualified individual for the position of Instruction and Classroom Support Technician 1 to support the Culinary Arts/Applied Technology department.

The ICST 1 directly supports student learning in the Culinary Arts Program through coaching and assisting students in developing hands-on culinary skills. The ICST 1 also tracks and orders supplies for both the Culinary Arts and Baking & Pastry Arts programs and assists with the preparation, maintenance, and operation of equipment used in the Culinary Arts instructional kitchen.
Essential Function- Support programs by weekly maintaining inventory and ordering ingredients while regularly cleaning & maintaining the kitchen.
Tasks include:
- Assists with maintaining the cleanliness of the lab environment.
- Coordinates with both Culinary Arts and Baking & Pastry Arts faculty members to estimate the quantity and quality of supplies and materials needed for lab classes.
- Monitors and maintains adequate weekly stock levels, communicating inventory information to Culinary Arts and Baking & Pastry Arts teams.
- Finalizes orders and then places orders for weekly ingredients/supplies for courses with multiple vendors in coordination with the Food and Beverage Arts Program Manager.
- Consult with the Food and Beverage Arts Program Manager regarding available funds for supplies.
- Prepares materials for use in the kitchen laboratory.
- Receives materials and supplies used in classes.
- Modifies equipment, materials, and programs as required for individual instructors.
- Assists students and instructors in selecting the correct tools and materials.
- Assists instructors in lab work.
- Confers with instructors in establishing and developing assignments.
- Set up assignments, equipment, and/or demonstration apparatus for classes.
- Assists instructors in demonstrating tools, equipment, machinery, apparatus, materials, and food preparation techniques.
- Helps with vocational training activities and maintains discipline while instructors give individual attention to students.
- Six months to two years of full-time experience/training in food service.
- Possession of, or eligible for, a food handler’s permit.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for many hours.
- Ability to work under pressure and accommodate numerous interruptions while performing multiple tasks.
- Ability to maintain a positive and professional attitude.
