What are the responsibilities and job description for the Physical Therapy Assistant-SY24-25 position at South Shore Educational Collaborative?
Qualifications:Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited physical therapy program and licensed by the Commonwealth
of Massachusetts. Valid Physical Therapy assistant licensee from the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Allied Health Professionals.
Experience working with students in a school setting with academic, behavioral and/or emotional challenges, learning or developmental
disabilities or autism preferred. Must be able and willing to physically restrain and/or lift students.
Work year:School year (182 days includes 2 professional days)
Reports to:Therapy Supervisors or designee
Responsibilities:
1.Participates in evaluation and assessments using standardized measures, formal and informal assessments as appropriate.
2.Implements therapy procedures for which qualified, as designated by the supervising PT.
3.Contributes to progress reports and assists in collecting data for IEP’s.
4.Maintain accurate, timely and confidential documentation of physical therapy services including those necessary for School-based Medicaid and Commonwealth of
Massachusetts license requirements.
5.Maintains all records in accordance with Collaborative, state and federal policies.
6.Assists with establishing goals for students and developing individual and group therapy activities.
7.Assists in the dissemination of established therapy programs to educational staff.
8.Consults with the supervising therapist concerning student status and implementation of therapy goals.
9.Work effectively with diverse student populations.
10.Constructs, modifies and maintains adaptive equipment for positioning and classroom use.
11.Assists in monitoring work and school environments for accessibility.
12.Helps ensure the proper and safe use of equipment, making certain equipment is constructed properly and maintained in good working order.
13.Assists with instructing the educational staff concerning the use of adaptive equipment, positioning programs and integration of therapy goals into classroom academic activities
to enhance function.
14.Caseload assignment is based on SSEC needs and may change at anytime including location of service delivery.
15.Restrain and/or lift students when necessary.
16. Participate in all required in-service training
17. Follow all policies and procedures as established by the South Shore Educational Collaborative
18. Use de-escalation, protective measures, and physical management techniques (including lifting and moving) as prescribed in SSEC approved physical management training
programs when appropriate with students.
19. Follow protective restraint procedures at all times when working with students as prescribed in SSEC approved restraint training programs.
20. Use appropriate physical techniques when lifting and/or moving students as prescribed in SSEC approved restraint training programs.
21. Consistent work attendance which includes; arriving to work on time each day, working the entire day and notifying the program director/coordinator a minimum of 24 hours in
advance for a personal day whenever possible.
22. Maintain confidentiality regarding information for all SSEC staff, students and their families.
23. Perform other duties as may from time to time be assigned by the Therapy Supervisors or his/her designee
Mandatory participation in all of the following SSEC sponsored trainings to include but not limited to:
1.Successful completion of SSEC approved restraint trainings, full and/or recertification annually as appropriate.
2.Maintain active CPR/First Aid certification.
3.Successful completion of all SSEC approved threat assessment training.
4. Successful completion of required training hours for 7D licensure if requested by the program director/coordinator
