About the Job
The Venipuncture Services Coordinator is responsible for coordinating venipuncture services for our patients. This includes performing phlebotomy procedures, verifying patient information, and generating collection lists.
- Phlebotomy Procedures: Uses correct technique to perform venipuncture, prioritizes STAT draws, and ensures timely transport of patient specimens to the lab for testing.
- Patient Identification and Specimen Labeling: Checks patient armbands for accurate identification, labels specimen tubes following established procedure, and uses Automated Patient Identification system to scan barcodes.
- Determining Priority of STAT Draws and Timely Transport: Prioritizes STAT requests, draws them within 10-15 minutes of the request, and ensures that STATs are transported to the lab on a priority basis immediately for serious cases.
- Utilizing Computers in Completing Assigned Functions: Verifies information for accuracy, performs order entry without errors, and generates collection lists (NCC list).
- Organizing Workload and Accurately Completing Statistics: Draws assigned patients by shift end, prints NCC lists periodically, and checks to ensure all patients listed are accounted for.
Qualifications:
- Education: Equivalent of four years of high school education.
- Work Experience: One year of full-time experience.
- Certifications: Certified or certified eligible with National Phlebotomy Association.
