Description

The YMCA is seeking an engaging and nurturing teacher to join our team. This position plays a key role in providing a safe and enriching environment for young children to learn, grow, and explore. As a teacher, aiding in the overall operation of high-quality early learning will include promoting YMCA core values and encouraging lifelong learning, while promoting essentials needed to learn, grow & thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement age-appropriate lesson plans and activities that promote children's physical, cognitive, and social/emotional development that aligns with the YMCA’S childcare curriculum and educational goals.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of the students and maintain a clean and developmentally appropriate environment where children can explore and engage in educational experiences.
  • Foster positive relationships with children and their families through effective communication and collaboration including providing regular updates on their child's progress and activities.
  • Collaborate with teaching team to ensure a cohesive and positive learning environment.
  • Conduct assessments and evaluations to monitor children's development and identify areas for improvement or additional support. Continuing strong communication with guardian/s regarding child's development.
  • Foster an interest in learning through engaging teaching methods, including storytelling, music, art, and play-based activities.
  • Ensure compliance with childcare policies, licensing regulations, and health and safety protocols.
  • Assists in providing reasonable accommodations to allow children with disabilities to participate in activities.

Qualifications

  • Completion or in process of attaining a bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university and/or associate's degree in early education is preferred.
  • EEC Certification required
  • Knowledge and experience with the Department of Early Education and Care regulations, QRIS Standards and National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
  • The ability to develop positive, effective working relationships with staff, children & families, volunteers, school administrators, members, community leaders and other agencies are critical to this position.
  • Effective teaching skills, class management skills, and the ability to implement methods to address and follow up with family needs/concerns in a positive and professional way reflecting an attitude that values and embraces diversity.
  • Must meet EEC Educator Professional Development requirements per QRIS standards and the Early Learning Center’s goals. Professional Development must include at least one third of the required training that addresses diverse learners. PQ Registry must remain current and reflect all PD hours, training and college level courses. Minimum Teacher I/T qualifications from the Department of Early Education and Care.
  • Strong understanding of child development theories and best practices in early childhood education.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively with children, parents, and colleagues.
  • Passion for working with children and creating a positive impact on their growth and development.
  • 18 years or older (required to have high School diploma, Child Development Course)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to: climb stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, twist, reach with hands, sit, stand for an extended period of time, walk, lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, have finger dexterity, grasp, perform repetitive motions, talk, hear and have visual acuity. Activities that may be required are climbing, running, swimming and other outdoor activities.
