The Nurse (Day Camp) Under the guidance ofthe Director Day Camp is responsible for the day-to-day first-aid and healthcare needs of a day camp serving 500 campers. The Camp Nurse will: monitor all health records to ensure compliance with state regulations regarding Day Camps. This position works in conjunction with the Camp Directors independently under general direction and is expected to determine how to accomplish tasks.
Reports to: Director Day Camp
Special Skills:
Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Three to five years related experience is preferred, but not required. The ability to develop positive, effective working relationships with campers, staff, volunteers, members, community leaders, and other agencies is important to this position. Effective delivery of quality customer service and a high level of enthusiasm are required.

- Staff and Camper health forms, with special attention to immunization compliance
- Nurse’s Office Log of daily clinic activities
- Medication Administration Records
- Incident report forms
- Communicable disease reporting
- Mass. DPH injury reporting
- Obtain proper health care proxy documentation from the Health Care Consultant
- Assist in providing health care information to staff during training and in an ongoing role throughout the summer
- Check all health forms of campers and staff and inform Camp Directors of any specific health problems
- Coordinate for organization and setting-up of the camp nurse’s office and maintenance of an inventory of necessary medical supplies in both the nurse’s office and various first aid kits
- Set up a system for health screening for arriving campers and staff, as well as a system for screening for out-of-camp activities
- Coordinate all activities in the nurse’s office, including the administering of basic first aid
- Coordinate the collection, storage, and administration of medication to campers and staff following the policies of the South Shore YMCA and DPH regulations
- Communicate pertinent health information to parents
- Perform any related tasks beyond those assigned at the direction of Camp and South Shore YMCA administration

Qualifications
Certificates, Licenses, Training:
- Must be licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts or hold a likewise qualifying certification that meets MA BOH Standards to hold position
- CPR and First Aid certifications required (American Red Cross or equivalent)
- Massachusetts School Nurse Licensure preferred.
- All staff are required to complete Camp Training which includes but is not limited to Child Abuse Prevention; OSHA and Emergency Procedures Training prior to employment beginning.
- Experience working with children and young adults; camp experience preferred
- Ability to originate, update, and/or monitor health care, maintain records, and implement the health care plan and standing orders
- Ability of accept supervision and guidance
- Ability to lead or assist in the teaching of an activity
- Good character, integrity, and adaptability
- Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control
