What are the responsibilities and job description for the Liaison Latino Resources Center position at South Suburban College?
Description
Guided by the leadership of the Director of Student Activities within SSC's Office of Student Life & Leadership. While engaging all visitors, the primary goal of this position is to be the central point of contact to collaborate with adjoining departments to support the academic & enrichment needs of individuals that self-identify as Latino/Latinx/Hispanic. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities.
Examples of Duties
- Coordinate the daily operations and services of the Latino Resources Center.
- Provide guidance to work-study & part-time employees as staff support.
- Facilitate best practices to provide information & resources.
- Collaborate with students, college personnel & community partners to support initiatives, programs, college goals, departmental engagement activities & events.
- Assist adjoining departments to perform all other additional duties as needed.
- Active participation in conversations focused on student needs.
- Written & oral translation.
- Provide recommendations to student clubs & organizations.
- Attend relevant trainings.
Typical Qualifications
- Extensive familiarity with Latino heritage & culture.
- Strong interpersonal skills & communication skills.
- Fluency in English and Spanish (a demonstration to gauge will be required).
- Earned a minimum of an Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution.
- Knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel).
- Basic internet research techniques & virtual platforms (Zoom, Teams).
- Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
Supplemental Information
PREFERABLE KNOWLEDGE:
Experience working with adult populations in an academic setting or community college.
STATUS/SALARY:
This is a temporary, part-time position for 20 hours a week. Pay rate is $20 per hour.
