Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Supervisor and/or Lead Person, performs a variety of maintenance, repair and operating work, and related tasks as required.

Typical time span of employment is May - October. Time span can vary depending on department needs. Hours worked will not exceed 999 hours in a fiscal year.


Interviews will be held in mid-April. The job posting will remain open until positions are filled.

Essential Functions

Seasonal Underground Sewer Repair Laborer - Assists in repairing sewer lines and laterals; replaces, repairs and adjusts manhole covers and frames. Assists in the cleaning and inspection of sewer, manholes and related facilities. Assists in repairing sewer main lines, maintains, repairs and installs sewer laterals as required. Repairs force mains and installs sewer mains. Breaks out, removes, and repairs street pavement. Assists in operation of sewer cleaning and rodding equipment (i.e. hydros, vacuum trucks, rodding equipment and t.v. camera equipment), but does not drive these vehicles. Performs pre-and post-vehicle inspections. Performs easement clearing using chainsaws and chipper.

Seasonal Underground Water Repair Laborer- Maintains, repairs, and/or replaces water lines and related water system components including: existing water services and service valves, fire hydrants, water valve boxes and covers, old valves up to 30" and above, water meters, and related components. Installs new water mains up to 8", mainline valves up to 30" and above, new water services and service valves, fire hydrants, water meters, and all components of a new water system including laying and joining pipe, and installation of water blow-offs. Installs and replaces water meters and boxes. Assists with chlorinating new lines and performs disinfection procedures as required. Tests and flushes new system to meet state requirements. Breaks out, removes and repairs street pavement. Operates air compressors and associated tools, such as jackhammers, and impact wrenches. Operates wackers, pavement saw, pipe cut-off saw, pipe-bursting and mole tunneling tool.

Seasonal Maintenance Laborer - Performs landscaping and irrigation work. Performs light maintenance at the District facilities including painting and staining of various facilities. Operates equipment such as weed wackers and air compressors.

Seasonal Ground Maintenance/Pumps Department -Assists in painting buildings, upkeep of grounds at stations, fuels reduction at stations, fence repairs and general maintenance help that may be needed. Experience in painting, yard work, use of chainsaws and handsaws and other hand tools desired.


Seasonal Meter Tech Assistant -
Assists the Customer Service Department with locating water meters, lifting meter lids and repairing problems, assists with reading meter routes and entering readings into electronic equipment . Assists with field works including turning meters on and off, checking for leaks, and investigating customer-related complaints. Responsible for turn-on and turn-off's of water for Customer Service.

Seasonal Water Service Technician - Enters crawl spaces to locate and inspect water service lines. Conducts scratch tests to determine material. Records and documents findings. Removes and reinstalls water meters. Communicates with property owners to schedule inspections, provides explanation to customers and maintains accurate records of inspections, assessments and follow-ups. Uses AutoCad software to capture water service line locations.

Education & Experience Requirements

High School graduate, or equivalent.
One year of experience desired in at least one of the following: collection system maintenance, meter maintenance, construction, repair or general maintenance work.

Proficiency Requirements

Requires knowledge of the methods, tools, materials, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of sewer collection systems and related facilities.

Requires ability to complete written work orders, keep simple records and prepare reports.

Requires the ability to read and follow written and/or verbal instructions, safety procedures and job-related instructions.

Ability to use use computer systems, software applications relevant to work performed and modern business equipment to perform work tasks.

Must have valid driver's license and proof of insurability.
