What are the responsibilities and job description for the Academic Interventionist (Middle School) position at South Tama Community School District?
Job Summary: The interventionist will work with elementary school students. The goal is to target students who struggle in reading and math skills and help close the learning gaps. This may include teaching small groups of students or in a whole class setting (co-teaching). The interventionist will collaborate with grade level and department teachers to design methods of learning appropriate for students based on data. They will collaborate with grade level teams to identify the progress students make towards reducing the learning gap. They will also serve on building MTSS teams (Tier II/Tier III) to support student learning.
Job Responsibilities:
- Meets and instructs assigned groups in the locations and times designated.
- Plans a program of study which meets the individual needs of each student.
- Prepare for assigned groups and show evidence of data during PLC meetings.
- Address the specific needs of a particular student when instruction in the classroom is not sufficient enough.
- Know students inside the classroom and out to better plan for instruction.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques to meet the needs and capabilities of individual and/or small groups of students.
- Strive to implement the district’s philosophy of education, goals, and objectives.
- Assess progress of students regularly and provide progress reports as needed.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the building principal.
Job Qualifications:
- Valid Iowa teaching license (K-8 or 5-12) Preferred
- Experience in school setting preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to make connections with students, families, schools, and agencies
