JOB TITLE: Paraeducator - Instructional Assistant – Basic Education/Special Education/Chapter- LAP
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education, Principal and Special Education Teacher
PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: Conducts activities assigned by the teacher including one-on-one and small group instruction, testing, materials preparation and student monitoring.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. This list of essential job functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. Depending upon individual assignment, the employee may perform all or a combination of several of the following duties:
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL:
Assists students with life skills training, such as: clothing, movement and toilet usage. Assists students with computer use and assistive technology.
Assists teacher with recordkeeping, filing, verifying time spent in program and student progress and attendance.
Supervises lunchroom bus and/or playground as assigned.
All other duties appropriate to the position or as assigned by the supervisor.
MIDDLE SCHOOL:
Monitors students who are restricted for disciplinary reasons, brings breakfast and/or lunch to room as required.
Records, transcribes and distributes multiple disciplinary team notes on a weekly basis. Monitors bi-weekly forms, meets with teams to review student needs and progress.
All other duties appropriate to the position or as assigned by the supervisor.
HIGH SCHOOL:
Maintains liaison with mainstream teachers regarding student progress, reviews lesson plans, and monitors student progress.
Contacts community businesses for the purpose of securing job training opportunities for students. Provides job coaching skills for students in training programs.
Maintains communications with business where students are employed on a weekly basis to assist and modify programs as needed.
All other duties appropriate to the position or as assigned by the supervisor.

PERSONAL QUALITIES:

MINIMUM AGE & EDUCATION:
· Be at least eighteen years of age.
· Hold a high school diploma or its equivalent and
· Hold an Associates of Arts (AA) degree; or
· Have earned seventy-two quarter credits (or forty-eight semester credits) at an institution of higher education; or
· Have completed a registered apprenticeship program.
TECHNOLOGY SKILLS:
Requires knowledge of computer use and software.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret curriculum materials.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Valid First Aid/CPR certification.
