JOB TITLE: Bus Driver

REPORTS TO: Transportation Supervisor

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: Operates school buses and vans in a safe and legal manner to transport students to and from school and activities away from the school.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Drives school buses and vans on assigned routes in a safe and orderly manner in accordance with state regulations and district policy.

Performs required operational and pre-trip safety inspections of vehicles and related equipment. Completes 'Daily Vehicle Condition Report.'

Washes, cleans, and fuels buses or vans as required.

Maintains control of student passengers as related to safety. Reports unsafe acts or conditions which require attention of any person other than the driver.

Performs basic first aid and CPR as required.

Completes forms, records, time sheets, trip requests, route studies and rider counts, trouble reports, misconduct reports and accident reports as required.

All other duties appropriate to the position or as assigned by the supervisor.

PERSONAL QUALITIES:

Ability to communicate effectively with students while maintaining safe and orderly conditions on buses or vans.

Prompt and dependable.

Ability to develop and maintain positive rapport with handicapped children and their parents.

Requires a high degree of confidentiality.

Maintain effective working relationship with school principal.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED), successful completion of the bus driver training course.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with other employees, community members, parents and students.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear and smell.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

The employee may be required to work in outdoor cold/wet conditions.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Valid Washington CDL - Class B with passenger endorsement.

DOT physical certification.

Air brakes qualified. First aid/CPR, School Bus Driver (Type 1) Authorization.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $30.60 - $36.04 per hour

Expected hours: 25 per week
