ABOUT Hermosa
Hermosa, located approximately 75 miles south-east of Tucson, Arizona, is the only advanced mining project in the United States as of 2023 that could produce two federally designated critical minerals-manganese and zinc-as well as silver and lead. The project has the potential to help power the nation's clean energy future, strengthen the domestic supply chain of critical minerals, grow the local economy, and improve lives in Santa Cruz County and the surrounding community for generations to come.

ABOUT THE ROLE
This role is essential to the overall success of the organization by planning, managing, and monitoring engineering design development, detail design, packaging engineering deliverables and scopes of work to facilitate tender of work packages, and schedule performance. The Superintendent of Underground Development and Construction will work closely with selected contractors to oversee Shaft construction including design review, sinking operation installation of support infrastructure and commissioning.
This role is a Permanent position based at the Hermosa Project site, near Patagonia, Arizona.
Other key responsibilities include, but aren't limited to :
Create, maintain, and execute project plan and schedule ensuring compliance with budget and proactively communicating identified issues and concernsSupervise and support all construction and sinking activitiesConfirm quality and accuracy of entire projectContribute to safe construction and field coordination of all shaft area facilitiesAssist the Shaft Manager and Underground Development Manager to resolve technical issues or conflictsEnsure project materials and workmanship meets the project quality standards and design requirementsAssist with the coordination of the overall construction effort to ensure bottlenecks are expeditiously resolvedMonitor field installation work and changes to ensure conformity with governing regulations and project environmental and community commitmentsEnsure where required that shaft construction methodology is applied in conformity with South32 and Hermosa business and technology objectivesAssist with the implementation of project document control processesAdvise Package Manager of Shafts of potential problems, work interferences or schedule difficulties while assisting in circumventing / resolving such conflicts; anticipates and resolves project issues and schedule difficultiesMonitor and report on Safety Performance for all work packagesEngage with HSS and the Environmental Department to address any undesirable trends and provide visible leadership in all aspects of safety and environmental performanceMonitor contractor quality control activities and arrange appropriate quality assurance surveillance and testing for ongoing and completed workEngage appropriately qualified consultants to undertake various tests and quality assurance checks to verify the quality of manufactured equipment and productsEffective communication skills to build relationships with external and internal stakeholdersProvide guidance to the Construction and UG Development teams on the technical aspects and requirements of field installation workCommunicate and collaborate with other managers, suppliers, and contractorsPrepare and deliver daily and weekly reports and presentations in conformity with the internal package management processesEnsure that the relevant corporate risk management processes are implemented and monitored during execution of Engineering and Construction work, and ensure that the relevant risk register(s) and accompanying mitigations are updatedSupervise, direct, coach and train shaft leadsPerform other duties as assigned by the Package Manager of ShaftsABOUT YOU
