Description
BASIC FUNCTION:
The ELFI Credit Underwriter reviews credit data to evaluate consumer loan requests to approve or deny applications. Analyzes financial information, such as income, debts, and the ability to repay. Reviews student loan data to ensure proper processing of applications.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist senior team members with credit underwriting and credit administration tasks.
- Perform credit/fintech research and present findings to management.
- Source and analyze credit performance, credit attributes, and risk concentrations to identify threats and opportunities.
- Manage daily underwriting cases as requested by front-line sales staff.
- Ensure proper follow-up for verification of employment and degree verifications.
- Review applications pursuant to credit policies and procedures- including analyzing credit reports, analyzing income from various sources including self-employment and verifying documents provided by applicants.
- Verify identity, income, and other required documentation.
- Analyze credit data to determine the degree of risk involved in extending credit or lending money.
- Analyze customer financial documentation.
- Prepare analytical reports that include the degree of risk involved in extending credit or lending money. Prepare and present applications that may be eligible for credit exceptions to management.
- Generate financial ratios, using computer programs, to evaluate customer status.
- Consult with customers, accountants, and other professionals to verify financial and credit information.
- Actively participate and communicate in team-based work groups.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND TRAINING:
- Self-motivated and able to work independently applying analytical skills required to manage reviewing tasks.
- Experience with Salesforce and loan origination platforms preferred.
- Ability to provide clear and concise feedback.
- Excellent verbal, written and reading comprehension.
- Ability to meet deliverables under tight deadlines.
- High attention to detail
WORKING CONDITIONS:

REQUIREMENTS:
- BA/BS Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field or Associates degree in a business/accounting concentration with 1-2 years experience in loan processing, underwriting, or bank lending.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of and adhere to all state and federal regulations that pertain to this position including but not limited to Bank Secrecy Act, Consumer Privacy and Fair Lending.
- Working knowledge of state and federal regulations including but not limited to Bank Secrecy Act, Consumer Privacy and Fair Lending along with industry best practices that pertain to this position.
