What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Assistant - PTT (Summer) position at Southeast Community College?
Under the general direction and supervision of the Superintendent, Physical Plant, the Maintenance Assistant - PTT will have responsibilities for a variety of general maintenance areas including but not limited to repairs, painting, facility construction, equipment moving, and grounds work including mowing. This is a part-time temporary seasonal position. This position is not eligible for company benefits. This position will be paid $14.35/hour. Employment for this position is between the months of May and August.

Essential Functions
- Aid in general building/facilities maintenance.
- Moving Furniture - Move furniture/equipment within facilities, as well as to and from storage areas, and keep records of items being moved. These items include but are not limited to tables, chairs, file cabinets, desks, lockers, instructional equipment, and office equipment.
- (Seasonal) Care and Upkeep of Lawns by mowing, trimming, raking, fertilizing, spraying, and watering lawns.
- Climbs ladders to perform tasks such as changing light bulbs, and gaining access to equipment and roofs.
- Keeps grounds clean from litter and trash
- Pick up or deliver supplies and deliveries throughout the campus as needed.
- Responds to repair and maintenance requests in a timely fashion.
- Ensures the proper maintenance of tools and equipment by cleaning and checking tools and equipment after use.
- Stand on your feet for extended periods of time.
- Ability to get into and out of equipment and operate the equipment.
- Walk on hard and rocky surfaces.
- Lift up to 80 pounds on a regular basis.
- Carry up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
- Push objects 100 pounds on a regular basis.
- Bend, stoop, or squat to floor level on a repetitive basis.
- Hand-eye coordination to operate equipment.
- Reach overhead on a repetitive basis Climb on ladders to heights of 12 feet.
- Work outside under extreme hot and cold conditions.
- Work in areas involving dust, odors, fumes, and gases.
- Work in areas with noises that may require the use of hearing protection.

Marginal Functions
- Do a wide variety of general maintenance and custodial tasks as needed.
- Assist in the maintenance of all custodial and maintenance equipment.
- May be required to perform associated duties, functions, or assignments in other divisions/programs/areas as required.
- Perform other College functions and duties as assigned.
- Must be able to work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required. Work schedules (hours/days/work location) are scheduled by Southeast Community College based on the needs of the College. Work hours, shifts, days, and work locations may vary depending on the needs of Southeast Community College and are subject to modification. Emergency or scheduled special activities may require hours outside of the regular workweek.
- Ability to read, understand and/or follow instructions related to hazardous materials, fertilizers, and lawn care products.
- Ability to communicate with supervisor, campus staff, and student workers, both orally and written.
- Knowledge and ability to use safe lifting and moving techniques.
- Knowledge and ability to safely operate power lawn equipment and hand tools.
- Ability to lift and carry up to (50) fifty pounds for short distances, move tables, chairs, and media equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively both in writing, in person, and on the phone.
- Ability to use basic computer skills.
- The individual must possess the skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
- At least sixteen (16) years of age or older
- Valid Driver's License
- Ability to Qualify for Auto Insurance Coverage
- Minimum of one (1) year of work experience in maintenance or repair.
- High school graduate or GED with vocational training or on-the-job training; or
- AAS degree in a related technical area.
$14.35 per hour
