Manager of Transportation
Reports to : Director of Accounting and Finance
Job Summary :
Responsible for the organization, administration, supervision in the area of the school district transportation system in accordance with state law and policies along with school district policies.

Duties & Responsibilities :
- Organizes and implements a pupil transportation system within the policies of the Board of EducationCoordinates transportation with contracted carrier
- Develops and maintains lists of children eligible for transportation
- Approves bus stops in as safe a location as possible
- Approves and arranges transportation for field trips and athletic trips
- Keeps records for preparation of state and local reports such as inventories, pupils transported, route mileage, time records, special trip records, traffic accidents, and other required reports
- Interprets transportation procedures and regulations to public and staff
- Makes recommendations that may improve transportation services and efficiency; such as rules and regulations for drivers and pupil conduct
- Coordinates bus discipline program with drivers, building administrators, and parents
- Negotiates, in cooperation with the Business Manager, with contractors for services which they provide the District
- Assists the Superintendent on decisions regarding school delays and / or closings during periods of inclement weather
- Assign students, schools, stops and busses to bus routes. In making bus route assignments, make maximum use of the time and capacity available for each bus in the System
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the Transportation Systems and where appropriate recommend to the District, methods to improve the effectiveness of the System
- Develop and monitor the student transportation budget
- Assist the HR Office with recruiting and maintaining Department of Transportation Staff
- Recommend to the District short-term and long-term plans, processes and procedures intended to improve student transportation services and, upon the District's approval and adoption of such policies and procedures, implement same
- Audit and track compliance of vendor contracts
- Evaluate the performance of each bus contractor the District partners with
- Prepare monthly performance reports for the District - selected elements of the performance reports will be identified and communicated on a quarterly bases with bus contractor
- Review invoices from bus contractors monthly, reconcile any adjustments or billing discrepancies, and process bus contractor invoices

Level of Compensation : $50,726 - $103,534 (dependent on Step and Track placement as determined based on collective bargaining agreements).
This is a 10-month position in the Southeast Delco Education Association contract group.
