Primary Objectives of Position: The youth workforce development coordinator will connect education, business and industry, and economic development in the region to coordinate work-based learning experiences in conjunction with the district work-based learning coordinator

Essential Job Functions:

Expected outcomes and deliverables of the youth workforce development coordinator include:

¨ Regional inventory of work-based learning opportunities and programs in place will be conducted to reduce duplication of effort.

¨ The youth workforce development coordinator will build and/or expand existing working relationships between education, business and industry, and economic development in the region.

¨ The youth workforce development coordinator will act as a liaison and coordinate career awareness experiences in the Kansas identified career fields for all students that may include guest speakers, career fairs, field trips, and tours. The youth workforce development coordinator will coordinate career awareness experiences in partnership with the district work-based learning coordinator. ¨ The youth workforce development coordinator will act as a liaison and coordinate career exploration experiences in the Kansas identified career clusters for all students that may include job shadows, mock interviews, field trips, and career mentoring. The youth workforce development coordinator will coordinate career exploration experiences in partnership with the district work-based learning coordinator. ¨ The youth workforce development coordinator will coordinate with the district work-based learning coordinator and community and technical colleges in the region to facilitate middle school and high school student career awareness and exploration opportunities.

¨ The youth workforce development coordinator will coordinate pre-employment workshops for students that may include workplace etiquette, customer service, resume and interview skills, and financial literacy. The youth workforce development coordinator will coordinate pre-employment workshops in partnership with the district work-based learning coordinator.

¨ The youth workforce development coordinator will act as a liaison and coordinate career preparation experiences in the identified Kansas career pathways for students that may include internship/placement (business/industry/community), youth registered apprenticeship, entrepreneurship/ownership, and service learning. The youth workforce development coordinator will coordinate career preparation experiences in partnership with the district work-based learning coordinator. ¨ The youth workforce development coordinator will build and/or expand sustainable work-based learning models in the region.

¨ The youth workforce development coordinator will facilitate the creation of virtual reality curriculum in collaboration with Kansas business and industry to allow students to virtually explore each of the Kansas career clusters and pathways.

¨ The youth workforce development coordinator will report the number of students engaged in career awareness, career exploration, and career preparation experiences as defined in the Kansas Work-Based Learning Personalized Learning Plan: https://www.ksde.org/Portals/0/CSAS/CSAS Home/CTE Home/Kansas Work-Based Learning_Personalized Learning Plan.pdf

¨ The youth workforce development coordinator will explore the possibility of utilizing a KDC
clearinghouse for regional and state work-based learning experiences in Kansas. The youth workforce development coordinator will create a clearinghouse or database for regional and state work-based learning experiences in Kansas.

¨ The youth workforce development coordinator will collaborate with the regional work-based learning intermediary in each of the workforce regions, and state agencies to coordinate forming an alignment to develop a statewide system.

¨ The youth workforce development coordinator will coordinate with the district work-based learning coordinator and community and technical colleges in the region to facilitate educator externships/professional development experiences. The youth workforce development coordinator will report the number of educators that participated in externships/professional development experiences.

¨ The youth workforce development coordinator will collaborate with the district work-based learning coordinator to coordinate with at least five business/industry representatives in the region to develop real-world projects that could be integrated into pathway courses that may include a virtual component and posted on a web page project board.

Job Location and Time Commitment:

This position will have a principal office location in Iola and/or Chanute. Primary work will occur from these offices, but the position could be required to travel within the 17-county area as needed. This position is a full-time, hourly limited term position. This position is expected to work 40 hours per week. Employment is an at will employer-employee relationship.

Job Qualifications and Experience:

· Prefer Bachelor’s degree in education, workforce development, human resource management, or business; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience

· Previous experience in the education or employment/training field preferred.

· Knowledge of federal and state workforce development programs and policy.

· Experience working with the community, public and non-profit organizations and all levels of government.

· Ability to relate effectively with people with a high level of integrity.

· Excellent oral and written communication skills.

· Strong analytic ability and technical competency.

· Must possess general PC proficiency and strong skills in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

· Ability to work with a diverse population.

· Must have a valid driver’s license and valid automobile insurance.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.00 - $18.00 per hour
