The Office of Residence Life at Southeast Missouri State University seeks qualified candidates for the position of Assistant Director for Residence Life. The Assistant Director provides leadership and direction for all campus residence halls. Through their staff, the Assistant Director establishes an environment that allows residents to accomplish their academic goals, participate in co-curricular activities, facilitate student growth and development, and develop a sense of community.

The Southeast Missouri State University Office of Residence Life applies a student-centered approach to its work with students and their parents who have questions, concerns, complaints, or issues.

Primary Responsibilities

• Directly supervise 9 Hall Directors (professional and graduate) and provide indirect supervision and development for 80 Resident Assistants throughout the system.
• Coordinate the selection and training activities for Hall Directors and student staff.
• Develop an inclusive, academically supportive community throughout 13 residence halls and 4 fraternity leased properties, housing up to 2,600 students.
• Coordinate the training, ongoing development, and evaluation of student staff.
• Assist staff in assessing student needs, creating intentional efforts to interact with students, and providing opportunities for student growth and development through education and social activities.
• Advise the Residence Hall Association.
• Coordinate the learning community program for the department, including supervision of 1 graduate assistant dedicated to those efforts.
• Coordinate the judicial process and adjudication of appeals for housing violations in coordination with the Office of Student Conduct.
• Assist with the management of summer housing operations.
• Manage a dedicated budget for areas under direct responsibility.
• Participate in crisis management and emergency response on a rotating basis for the housing system.
• Initiate and maintain positive relationships with students, faculty, staff, family members, and external constituents in a multicultural environment.
• Act as a University spokesperson at campus events.
  
  

Required Qualifications

• Master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Counseling, Public Administration, Educational Leadership, or a related field. (Degree must be from a regionally accredited or internationally accredited/government-certified university).
• Minimum of 5 years of full-time residence hall or campus leadership program experience (a plus if this experience occurred post-Master's).
• Evidence of ability to provide leadership and development for and work effectively with staff and students in a residence hall community.
• Experience managing conduct and crisis management in a residential setting.
• Demonstrated experience working with academic support initiatives or programmatic activities in residence halls.
• Experience with budget management and development.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated innovative approaches in problem solving.
• Experience working with Microsoft Office applications.
• Demonstrated experience and understanding of customer service.
