Position Title: Revenue Cycle Specialist (Hybrid after training)

Primary purpose and function:
The Revenue Cycle Specialist works closely with other members of the revenue cycle team to oversee all aspects of the revenue cycle within the billing office with minimal supervision. The Revenue Cycle Specialist works with clinic staff, patients, and insurance companies to manage the revenue cycle accurately and efficiently to help provide an excellent patient experience.
Essential functions and responsibilities:
· Review accounts and/or follow-up documents for outstanding accounts receivable issues.
· Contact insurance and/or third-party organizations by telephone, correspondence, or meetings to resolve issues impairing reimbursement and secure reimbursement for billed services.
· Prepare and maintain collection related documents, data, and reports in compliance with all State and Federal laws pertaining to healthcare reimbursement.
· Respond to correspondence and calls from patients and/or third-party organizations regarding outstanding accounts receivable.
· Verify insurance eligibility and benefits and obtain authorizations for professional and facility services.
· Contact patients regarding pre-collection of procedure down payments.
· Post E&M, procedure, and ancillary charges into the practice management system.
· Research insurance and patient credit balances and regularly write up requests for refunds.
· Accurately post payments and/or adjustments to the proper accounts within the PM system and reconcile daily.
· Maintain appropriate documents, reports, and files to comply with all applicable laws and policies.
· Other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Knowledge and Skill:
· High school diploma or equivalent.
· Minimum of 3 years in a healthcare business office.
· Knowledge of insurance companies’ procedures and policies.
· Knowledge of governmental, legal and regulatory provisions related to revenue cycle activities.
· Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS coding.
· Knowledge of anatomy and medical terminology.
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite products, Internet browsing and medical practice management software.
· Previous experience working with Centricity/Athena is a plus.
Physical demands:
· Frequent alpha/numeric keyboarding.
· Oral communication over the phone and in person.
· Must be able to exercise patience and accuracy in the face of multiple interruptions.
