Position Summary:

The Vice President of Operations oversees management of all areas of manufacturing activities to develop, produce, plan and prepare goods for delivery on schedule within approved quality standards in the most cost-effective manner to meet current and future needs of the organization. This role develops and incorporates solid operational safety, regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and cost control policies and programs into all manufacturing processes. Adopts process designs, technologies, and methods that maximize operational efficiency and drives automation. Plans and forecasts resources for facilities, equipment, materials, and workforce to ensure sufficient manufacturing capacity to support business goals. This positions’ footprint is the United States and reports to the divisional President.


Duties:

  • Serve as a key member of the management team that sets the company’s strategic direction and formulates both long and short-range plans, policies, programs and objectives.
  • Develop strategic planning for the direction and control of manufacturing, product development and technical support activities.
  • Formulate long-term objectives and standards of performance for the department, and assure that it achieves objectives and project completion within budget and time frame.
  • Be a student of current industry trends, ensuring that the company maintains and expands its technology leadership position.
  • Ensure that product development and technical support are focused on meeting and exceeding the customer requirements and expectations.
  • Develop plans and procedures for maintaining high standards of manufacturing operations, ensuring products conform to established customer and company quality standards.
  • Prepare the annual budget for manufacturing and plant engineering, including capital expenditures and inventory levels while managing overhead, variable and direct labor costs to meet or exceed annual budgetary and prior year expenses.
  • Manage inventory levels through “NAV Procurement & Forecasting” while balancing plant load and workforce.
  • Aggressively lead Operations to identify, recommend, specify and implement changes to improve productivity, quality, on-time delivery, and reduce costs.
  • Implement and manage software solutions to improve uptime and business challenges.
  • Work with direct reports to create a “preferred place to work” culture
  • Drive quality performance, efficiencies and waste reduction through Lean Manufacturing principles
  • Oversee facilities including lease negotiations and product flow and location improvements.
  • Institute performance metrics for operational excellence.
  • Analyze downtime trends and equipment abilities to make necessary improvements to meet goals.
  • Oversee plant operations to ensure manufacturing/production efficiency, quality, safety, customer satisfaction and cost-effective management of resources and profitability for the manufacturing organization.
  • Support and lead safety programs in line with company values and policies.
  • Responsible for day-to-day management of the business to achieve the budgeted operating profit and working capital targets driving performance through the Regional Ops Directors and Plant Managers.
  • Work with Regional Ops Directors and Plant Managers to execute and deliver strategic goals and operational excellence
  • Review monthly financials to determine progress and status in obtaining objectives and revise plans as necessary in accordance with current conditions to meet the overall objectives.
  • Ensure adequate resources (personnel, materials, equipment and training) are provided to meet the company objectives.
  • Drive standardization across plants and operations where appropriate
  • Lead lean implementation and principles ensuring plants and regions are equipped with the tools, training, and resources for implementation.
  • Establish a work environment conducive to maintaining good employee morale.
  • Lead in conjunction with Regional Ops Directors analysis, budget, and planning for capital investments
  • Lead manufacturing and operations integration of acquisitions as needed
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations for Plant Managers and Regional Operations Directors and ensure that all managers do the same for their employees at each location
  • 50% domestic travel required
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or related field or a combination of education and experience plus 15 years in a manufacturing operations
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Proficient problem-solving and multitasking skill
  • Team player and thrives in a collaborative, matrixed team environment
  • Has a curious nature and desire to learn and grow individually and your team members
  • Ability to promote teamwork among peers is a must
  • Ability to lead through influence
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)
