Job Summary:
The Teacher/QP in the Day Treatment Program provides educational instruction and therapeutic support to children or adolescents who require intensive services to address behavioral, emotional, and academic challenges. This role combines teaching, case management, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team to promote student growth in a structured and supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities:Educational Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized educational plans (IEPs) or lesson plans tailored to meet the needs of students with emotional or behavioral challenges.
- Provide instruction in core academic subjects, ensuring alignment with state and local curriculum standards.
- Utilize creative and adaptive teaching methods to engage students and accommodate various learning styles.
- Monitor and assess student progress, maintaining accurate records and documentation.
- Foster a classroom environment that supports emotional regulation and positive behavioral interventions.
Therapeutic Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with mental health professionals to integrate therapeutic goals into educational programming.
- Assist students in developing coping strategies and social skills through structured activities and modeling.
- Participate in crisis intervention, utilizing de-escalation techniques when necessary.
- Attend treatment team meetings to provide input on student progress and contribute to the development of treatment plans.
Case Management & Administrative Duties:
- Serve as a Qualified Professional (QP) under relevant state guidelines, managing assigned caseloads as required.
- Document and report on student progress, behavioral incidents, and academic performance.
- Communicate effectively with parents, guardians, and external agencies to ensure holistic support for each student.
- Adhere to organizational policies, licensing standards, and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in education, special education, psychology, social work, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Experience: Minimum of two years working with children or adolescents in a therapeutic, educational, or similar setting.
- Certifications: Teaching license or certification in special education (preferred). Must meet state-specific QP qualifications.

- Strong understanding of behavioral health and trauma-informed care principles.
- Ability to build positive, supportive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in classroom management and conflict resolution.

Work Environment:
- Structured day treatment classroom setting.
- May involve handling challenging behaviors and situations requiring physical or verbal intervention.
- Regular interaction with children and adolescents experiencing significant emotional and behavioral challenges.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in therapeutic or alternative education programs.
- Training in crisis intervention techniques (e.g., CPI, Handle With Care).
- Familiarity with evidence-based interventions, such as PBIS or DBT.
