POSITION: COMMUNITY COORDINATOR

REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF CAMPUS LIFE

NORMAL WORK AREA: DESIGNATED OFFICE ASSIGNED WITHIN RESIDENCE HALL

As a Community Coordinator, you are an integral member of the Campus Life team, an example of servant-leadership to others on campus, and are continually striving to be a reflection of Christ’s love. Additionally, you are a professional who has proven capability to balance multiple priorities including supervision of student leaders, community development, individualized student support, facility management, and operational functions in an effort to support the SEU mission and vision for our students.

The Community Coordinator reports to the Director of Campus Life and abides by the expectations and responsibilities listed in the Community Coordinator position description. This is a 12-month required live-in position.

The Community Coordinator must be:

  • Committed to establishing and maintaining an inclusive environment where all students can reach their potential emotionally, socially, intellectually, physically, and culturally.
  • Maintain an attitude of flexibility and willingness to implement more efficient and effective processes, when deemed necessary.
  • Willing to communicate with the program administrators, RAs, students, and staff in a positive and productive manner.
  • Efficient at developing genuine connections with program administrators, RAs, students, and other University representatives while being empathetic and considerate of everyone’s experiences.
  • Willing to abide by the standards of confidentiality as established by the Director of Campus Life.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the following areas: leadership, progressive staff supervision, crisis management, conflict resolution, inclusion, staff development and training, and professionalism
  • Excellent interpersonal communication, organization, and administrative skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with other department staff, faculty, and students
  • Crisis and emergency management response skills
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, and tact in this highly confidential position

DUTIES AND EXPECTATIONS

  • Personal and Community Expectations
    • Maintain personal spiritual disciplines, including prayer and scripture reading, and weekly chapel attendance.
    • Be a role model by living a mature, Christian lifestyle and seeking to continually grow in Christ.
    • Adhere to all university policies faithfully and live above reproach.
    • Use discretion when posting on social media

  • Administrative Expectations
    • Provide leadership to a designated area of residence halls or Buttercup Houses of approximately 300-400 students, including implementing effective management and administrative strategies in the day-to-day operation of the residence halls.
    • Operate a professional office, including regularly scheduled and posted office hours (9AM – 4:30PM Monday – Friday) plus 5 flex-hours per week.
    • Participate in the planning and implementation of the ongoing Student Leadership Training & Development.
    • Check voicemail & email, daily.
    • Rotate on-call every 5 weeks for all residence halls and fulfill holiday duty shifts as assigned.
    • Serve the SEU community as needed during emergency situations, including but not limited to hurricanes.
    • Meet on a regular basis with the Director of Campus Life.
    • Participate in Campus Life staff meetings and business and professional development meetings - contributing to conversations, training, planning, and problem-solving opportunities as they arise.
    • Meet paperwork deadlines as assigned by the Director of Campus Life, as well as submit monthly reports and other assigned materials as directed.
    • Respect others by being punctual and attentive to meetings.
    • Support the University Chapel program by attending a minimum of one Chapel per week.
    • Maintain and support the policies and procedures approved by the Board of Directors, Board of Administration, Leadership Team, and the Vice President for Student Life & Campus Services..
    • Assist in the administration and evaluation of student judicial procedures.
    • Utilize intentional interactions, student success management system, incident reports to identify students at risk and provide intentional outreach.
    • Document and report any student related issues to the Director of Campus Life and any other necessary University Personnel.
    • Operate & manage allotted budget.
    • Assist with SEU Global Events, including but not limited to SEU Fall Conf, SEU Conf, Homecoming, etc.
  • Co-curricular/Educational Expectations
    • Collaborate to develop, implement, and evaluate co-curricular events.
    • Participate in the Office of Community Standards and Responsibility Mentoring Program.
    • Serve as a community liaison for departments across campus (connecting students with appropriate services)
    • Serve as an instructor for the CORE 1111 or 1112 (if applicable).
    • Oversee implementation of designated hall programming throughout the academic year.
    • Promptly report illness, accident, or behavioral problems to the Director of Campus Life
  • Facility Management
    • Oversee designated residence halls by regularly evaluating facility maintenance needs and cleanliness, reporting issues (according to procedures noted in the Community Coordinator Manual), and following up with Campus Life Housing Office as needed..
    • Oversee the logging of damage during check-ins and check-outs throughout the year.
    • Collaborate with the Assistant Director and Director of Campus Life to ensure that all issues regarding a student living on campus are handled efficiently and effectively.
  • Responsibility to Student Staff
    • Participate in the selection, training, and evaluation of student staff/resident assistants.
    • Develop, coach, and advise student staff through consistent mentorship.
    • Hold student staff accountable to their job descriptions through ongoing assessment and feedback.
    • Consistently execute the professional development plan for student staff members.
    • Meet with student staff on a regular basis to answer questions, clarify processes, and update training.
  • Responsibility to Residents
    • Be knowledgeable of all relevant University policies and procedures.
    • Serve as the first response to residential student concerns, including but not limited to, physical, mental, and emotional concerns / crises.
    • Effectively articulate the University philosophy and mission.
    • Maintain a consistent presence with the residential living areas.
    • Curate an inclusive, safe, learning environment for students to live and grow.
    • Consistently assess the needs of students and adjust educational strategies accordingly.
    • Oversee and supervise student activities as related to the residential living areas or co-curricular activities.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to communicate clearly in person and/or in written format
  • Ability to relate to students and staff in a professional and productive manner
  • Ability to coordinate and implement planned activities
  • Ability to travel independently while performing all job duties
  • Ability to independently complete all listed assignments, responsibilities, and duties

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED

  • BA/BS degree required; Degrees in Education, Leadership, Ministry or a related area of study preferred.
  • Master’s degree in Education, Leadership, Ministry or related area of study (or equivalent experience) preferred.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in higher education, student development, church ministry, educational instruction or related field.

TRAINING TIME

  • Six months to one year to perform all job-related duties with minimum supervision.
