Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Interviewer to join our dynamic and dedicated team to help provide a safe, compassionate, healing environment for children who have been a victim or witnessed a crime. Our Forensic Interviewers help uphold our values of Collaboration, Excellence, and Impact by providing quality forensic interview services to child victims and our investigative partners, ensuring each child has the safety they need to tell their story.
FUNCTION: Reporting to the Program Director, Forensic Interviewers are responsible for conducting forensic interviewing of children and adolescents ages 2 through 17, as well as vulnerable adults, who are alleged to be victims of or eyewitnesses to abuse and/or violence. A key function of this position is to utilize evidence-based models while demonstrating exceptional adaptability to each child and situation. Forensic Interviewers are responsible for working closely with investigators working in law enforcement and child welfare, including during multidisciplinary case briefings prior to each interview. Forensic Interviewers are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (on a rotating basis) for our partners to ensure that multidisciplinary team protocols are followed, and that services provided by the Center are free of any hindrances.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conducts forensic interviews of alleged victims and witnesses of abuse, as requested by the multi-disciplinary team members who include Law Enforcement, Arizona Department of Child Safety, and County Attorney’s Offices throughout Southern Arizona;
- Coordinates joint forensic interviews of alleged child/adolescent/vulnerable adult abuse victims with multi-disciplinary team members;
- Consults with investigative team members and participates in multi-disciplinary staffing before and after each forensic interview;
- Maintains and updates Service Authorization Forms, Forensic Interview log book, and secure online database;
- Participates in defense interviews as requested;
- Testifies in civil and criminal court proceedings regarding general interview processes and techniques, as well as interviews conducted regarding individual cases, as requested;
- Participates in monthly multi-disciplinary team meetings (MDTs), and case review;
- Participates in monthly Peer Reviews and quarterly Journal Club meetings;
- Remains current on research involving forensic interviewing and abuse investigations;
- Participate in after-hours/weekend triage coverage on a rotating basis;.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, criminal justice or other related field, and/or equivalent.
- Knowledge of the criminal justice system, with a preference for previous experience working in a multi-disciplinary environment with Department of Child Safety (DCS), Law enforcement (LE) and Human Services.
- Must have reliable transportation, and a valid Arizona driver’s license.
- Must be able to pass a fingerprint and criminal background check.
SPECIAL ABILITIES AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) fluency.
- Knowledge and/or experience with the criminal justice system.
- Knowledge or experience working with children and families of diverse backgrounds.
- Experience with diverse cultures, languages and situations.
- Exceptional verbal, written and communication skills as well as the ability to listen and communicate clearly and effectively with others.
- Ability to maintain composure while working under pressure, continuing effective interactions with victims and partners.
- Positive attitude, flexibility, and teamwork.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 32 per week
