At Southern Auto Group, our Apprentice Service Technician position is an entry-level technician with limited experience in the auto repair field. This position can also support a senior-level technician who will be able to mentor and support a budding technician for career growth and the opportunity for advancement. And if you have experience along with holding a State Inspector's License, you're ahead of the game! Learning the ropes, growing with the team, and promoting from within...... That's what we're all about!!
The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or GED, some post-secondary Automotive training, and at least two (2) years of dealer-level or large facility experience. Holding a State Inspection License and certification by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) is an absolute plus! An unrestricted driver's license and a good driving record, a strong technical performance record, and strong physical dexterity and stamina to get the job done are required. Candidates must be able to work productively in a fast-paced team environment and must have a positive attitude, professional appearance, great communication skills, and the ability to deliver world-class customer service.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform work as outlined on the repair order with efficiency and accuracy, in accordance with dealership and factory standards
- Diagnose cause of any malfunction and perform repairs
- Communicate with the Parts Department to obtain needed parts
- Save and tag parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer
- Examine assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended
- Communicate with Service Advisors immediately if additional work is needed, if work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time
- Document all work performed and recommended on the repair order
- Road test vehicles when required or refer to the Test Technician
- Participates in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, school, and events
- Keep abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins
- Report machinery defects or malfunctions to supervisor
- Ensures that customers' cars are kept clean
- Notifies Service Advisor immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle
- Keep shop area neat and clean
- Maintain and be accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals/returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as they were received
- Understand, keep abreast of, and complies with Federal, State, and local regulations, such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.
- Completes all OSHA-required training as necessary
- Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner
- Reports any safety issues immediately to management
