Description
The School of Education is looking to fulfill the Director of Office of Teacher Education (OTE) position. This individual will provide vision and administrative leadership for the OTE, coordinate CAEP accreditation and state review of the Teacher Education Program (TEP). As well as supervise program admission to the TEP, retention in the TEP, supervise TEP Clinical Supervisors and other university field experience and student teacher supervisors, and supervise teacher education licensure activities and serve as Licensure Officer for SIUC.
Examples of Duties
- Lead the development and articulation of a collective vision for teacher education.
- Anticipate, plan, establish, and assess teacher education goals and initiatives.
- Supervise program admission into the Office of Teacher Education (OTE) as well as student retention.
- Supervise OTE Clinical Supervisors and other university field experience and student teacher supervisors.
- Coordinate the Education Core curricula, courses, and methods of instruction in consultation with the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies and Curriculum and work cooperatively with the faculty to establish and implement processes that ensure effective instruction.
- Serve as the lead administrator for CAEP accreditation and assessment activities and continuous improvement initiatives for teacher education. Serve as Teacher Licensure Officer for the University and supervise teacher education certification activities.
- Establish a positive, supportive, and productive environment for faculty, staff, and students.
- Oversee the CAEP accreditation and state review of OTE.
- Supervise all faculty and staff in the Office of Teacher Education as well as teacher education personnel not housed in departments.
- Oversee electronic data collection, storage, and statistical analyses essential for internal and external reports (e.g. Title II, ISBE Annual Reports, CAEP).
- Create new and nurture existing partnerships with area schools, agencies, community organizations, and other stakeholders
- Oversee and support programs in meeting state standards and requirements for OTE.
- Prepare and submit reports as requested by state of Illinois, the Dean, Provost, or Chancellor and an annual report for Dean and faculty, describing the work of the Office of Teacher Education.
Qualifications
Required:
- Earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution and a background in teacher education, or equivalent.
- Experience facilitating assessment practices and accreditation procedures.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with students, faculty, and staff.
- Experience in accreditation, assessment, and/or management of electronic data collection, storage and analysis.
- The ability to articulate the goals and practices to students, faculty, and staff across the University, as well as to alumni, local/regional/national education and community organizations, and external funding agencies.
- Have organizational skills to promote collaboration and teamwork within the Office of Teacher Education, the campus, and professional community.
- Provide evidence of effective communication and interpersonal skills, sensitivity to and understanding of academic, socio-economic, cultural, disabilities and ethnic backgrounds of a diverse student body.
- Demonstrated capacity to build and maintain academic programming, quality curricula development, and effective judicial process.
- Skills for report writing, understanding of carrying out state teaching requirements. The position requires ability to maintain the highest levels of integrity at all times.
