In this role, you’ll be at the heart of shaping high-impact events and cultivating partnerships that span across departments and the community. As the go-to person for complex, multi-departmental and university-wide events, you'll play a key role in delivering outstanding experiences that impact our students, staff, and the entire campus community.
Your mission? To provide expert coordination and oversight of large-scale events, ensuring seamless execution while working closely with campus partners and external organizations. Whether you're facilitating an exciting student-focused event or collaborating with other departments for impactful Campus Recreation activities, your energy and leadership will make a huge difference!
What You’ll Do
- Event Leadership: Take charge of coordinating complex events that involve multiple departments and have a broad impact across the university. Your focus will primarily be on student-centered events, but you’ll also work on campus-wide initiatives and collaborations that support the mission of Campus Recreation and the Division of Student Affairs.
- Strategic Planning & Operations: Assist in setting the strategic direction for key facilities such as the Outdoor Recreational Sports Complex, Esports Arena, and the Student Activity Center. Help prioritize operations, ensuring that these high-demand spaces run smoothly, whether they’re hosting internal or external groups.
- Community Partnerships: Be a champion for cultivating new and exciting community partnerships that not only enhance student experiences but also boost traditional and non-traditional revenue streams for both the department and the university.
- Collaboration & Coordination: Work closely with a variety of departments and external entities, ensuring that all events and operational tasks align with the university’s goals. Your ability to connect people and ideas will be key in fostering a collaborative environment that drives success.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in recreation, sports management, business, communications or a closely related field
- A total of one (1) year (12 months) in education, training and/or work experience in recreation, sports management, business, communications or a closely related field. (Note: Master’s Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.)
Preferred Qualifications
- Full-time work experience of at least 2-3 years in a recreation, sports, entertainment venue, special events venue or collegiate setting.
- CPR/AED certification (Must acquire within 60 days of hire)
- Master's Degree in recreation, sports management, business, communications or a closely related field.
- Experience with sales, marketing and sponsorships.
- Experience and knowledge of basic financial and budgeting principles.
- Direct experience managing, planning and/or assisting with large-scale events.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for success in this position.
- Knowledge and experience working with a variety of technologies in a business setting.

Illinois Residency Requirement: Pursuant to the State Universities Civil Service System, out-of-state candidates must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of the start date for this position.
