Description

The Housing Department with University Housing Facilities Management (UHFM) at SIUE is accepting applications for a temporary Grounds Worker for the 2024 summer season. The Grounds Worker spends a substantial amount of time trimming and mowing grass, shrubs, and trees, mulching planting areas, and moving furniture within University Housing. Further duties and responsibilities may be assigned in support of the department's mission and goals.

Work Schedule : Positions will begin approximately in mid-April and run through mid-October. Hours will be 7 : 00 a.m. - 3 : 30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications :

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Any one or combination totaling six (6) months from the categories below :

Coursework or vocational training in horticulture, landscaping, or a closely related field, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent :

Fifteen (15) semester hours equals six (6) months

Extra Help employees are appointed to fulfill casual or emergent needs within the university. The amount of time for which services are needed is not usually predictable and payment for work performed is on an hourly basis and based on actual hours worked. Workdays and hours may vary according to departmental requirements. Extra Help employees do not receive SIUE benefits, holiday pay or paid sick or vacation leave.

Extra Help employees are required by State Universities Civil Service System rules to take a 30-calendar-day break after working 900 hours. At the end of the 30 days, you may begin another 900-hour employment cycle in a new position if available. Working Extra Help will in no way affect any other employment opportunities with SIUE, including your position on and Civil Service register. There is no guarantee that working as Extra Help will lead to or secure permanent employment.

Additional Information : This position does not offer work authorization sponsorship. International students at SIUE on F-1 or J-1 visas are not eligible for full-time or part-time civil service positions with permanent status. F-1 and J-1 visa holders must be enrolled full-time and can only apply for temporary part-time roles working 20 hours or less per week during spring and fall semesters, such as student worker positions, assistantships, and civil service extra help roles. SIUE is a state university, and it's important to highlight that benefits from state-sponsored plans may not be accessible to individuals on F1 or J1 visas.
