Join our ACT (Assertive Community Treatment) Team at Southern Iowa Mental Health Center!
Serve as a member of an interdisciplinary team that provides recovery oriented in- home and community-based services for adults with chronic mental illness. Goal is to keep them in their independent home by assisting with keeping them engaged in services, taking medications, and in activities of daily living/community living skills. Our team covers 8 counties in Southeast Iowa: Wapello, Mahaska, Keokuk, Jefferson, Van Buren, Davis, Appanoose, and Monroe.
Who are Peer Support Specialists?
Are you in recovery from a mental illness? Are you passionate about helping others? Southern Iowa Mental Health Center is seeking a full-time Peer Support Specialist for our ACT Team. Peer Support Specialists use their experiences in recovery from mental illness plus state approved training to help people with their own recovery journey and inform non-peer team members of this unique perspective. This position includes hours that are office-based and work in client’s homes in 8 counties in Southeast Iowa.
Job Functions:
· Demonstrates a positive cooperative attitude, flexibility, and a willingness to change to meet department goals.
· Responsible for being well-organized and energetic with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
· Welcomes people into service and encouraging them during times of stress and struggle.
· Develops personalized health goals, discovering effective coping skills, accessing community resources, and coordinating care.
· Effectively using technology such as computers, cell phones, and software.
· Documents interactions and other required reports in an electronic health record.
· Communicates to other team members and supervisors with positive attitude.
· Creative problem solving to “meet people where they are at”.
· Assist with referrals and linkage to services to help members meet their personal goals.
Requirements:
· Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and experience with mental/ behavioral health services for at least one year.
· Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and current automobile insurance with 100,000/300,000/100,000 coverage.
· Willing and able to transport patients and use personal vehicle for travel.
· Pass the background checks pertaining to criminal, transportation, and abuse registries.
· Basic computer knowledge using Word, Excel, Google Docs, Outlook, and EHR.
