Position Summary

Southern Land Company, a national real estate development and construction firm headquartered in Nashville, TN is seeking a full-time Architectural Design Manager to join our dynamic team at our Westhaven Community.

The Architectural Design Manager will facilitate the review of all homeowners Architectural Modification submittals within Southern Land Company single-family communities. This includes coordination with homeowners for individual projects while upholding the design quality, community standards, and beauty of these communities. This Manager will be overseeing homeowner requested projects with varying complexities of exterior or landscape architecture, under moderate supervision with latitude for independent judgement.

Essential Functions

• Recognizes the importance of upholding the vision and character of our communities through enforcement of architectural guidelines unilaterally.
• Ability to manage, coordinate, and implement landscape and architectural design uniformly.
• Manage, coordinate, and implement Architectural Review Submission requirements for residential projects.
• Implement architectural standards, policies, and procedures related to architectural design, documentation, and quality control.
• Assist with revisions and maintenance of the community design guidelines for single-family communities.
• Communicate with and coordinate with homeowners, project team members, clients, consultants, contractors, and agency officials.
• Research and specify materials, products, and systems.
• Attend job-site meetings, issue supplemental instructions, review submittals and shop drawings during for accuracy during project construction.
• Collaborate cross functionally with other departments to ensure effective communication between property management, exterior architecture, homebuilding, and landscape architecture.
• Maintain an up-to-date and comprehensive understanding of applicable building codes and zoning regulations as they relate to the design and construction of residential structures.
• Seek an ongoing knowledge of the successful trends within the industry.
• Make exterior material and color recommendations as needed.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• A fundamental understanding of construction documentation methods for wood frame construction.
• Proficiency in the following technical programs: Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Adobe CS5 or later, Sketchup or other computer rendering software experience.
• Ability to keep sensitive information confidential.
• Excellent customer service, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Strong people skills, and the ability to deal professionally with homeowners, vendors, and co-workers on the phone and in person.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to take initiative, use good judgment, demonstrate a keen sense of urgency and diligence, and carry multiple projects through to completion.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, prioritize work and ask for further clarification when necessary.
• Ability to work under pressure with tight time constraints, as well as the ability to deal with frequent interruptions, unresolved situations, frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.

Required Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in architecture or related field from accredited school.
• 3 years’ experience in a similar position.

Preferred Education and Experience

• Experience in single-family architecture or traditional neighborhood design.
• Knowledge of historically accurate residential design and detailing.
• Knowledge of Single-Family design trends.
• AIA certification is not required.
