Position Summary
Southern Land Company, a national real estate development and construction firm, is seeking a full-time Irrigation Tech to join our dynamic team at our new Westerly community in Erie, Colorado.
This Irrigation Technician position will focus primarily on irrigation systems upkeep and maintenance. The ideal candidate will have the knowledge to be able to evaluate irrigation systems and identify potential problems, along with the specialty skills needed to resolve issues. Current work includes an established irrigation program of a 2Wire and well system, with preparation for installing upcoming phases of new developments on adjacent lots. Monday through Friday, and some Saturdays, beginning at 7:00AM.
Essential Functions
- Monitor and test new installations, troubleshoot and repair problems, observe pipe and valve placements, evaluate start-ups, participate in winterization procedures, and provide overall oversight operation of the irrigation system. This includes valve box repairs, replacement of broken heads, and other needs as they arise.
- Manage/maintain the irrigation system (2Wire, well system) on the property and develop plans for its expansion and long-term upkeep.
- Coordinate with and oversee landscape and irrigation contractors to establish and ensure firm maintenance schedules, re-design of older areas, plant selection, and project management.
- Maintain the restoration, maintenance, and future planning of landscape and irrigation for a residential subdivision in development.
- Maintain records of work areas, vendors, contracts, and physical implements like water sources, trees, and other landscaping features.
- Assist marketing personnel in preparing for and running community-building events.
- Participate in other landscaping duties as requested, including but not limited to: Complete change-outs of flower beds per year, design all containers, and lead installation.
- Assist with conducting outreach to an invested community of residents in the form of regular email updates, personal communication to residents with issues or questions, free periodic classes on home gardening.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Ability to keep sensitive information highly confidential.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to deal professionally with clients, vendors, and co-workers on the phone and in person.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to take initiative, sound judgment, ability to demonstrate a strong sense of urgency and attention to detail, and ability to simultaneously carry out multiple projects through to completion.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, prioritize work, and ask for further clarification when necessary.
- Ability to work under pressure with tight time constraints, as well as the ability to deal with frequent interruptions, unresolved situations, frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
- Ability to perform physical tasks as needed, including but not limited to:
- Digging, bending, knelling, crouching, lifting and use of heavy equipment such as a Skid steer, trencher, mini excavator, and more.
- Use of all required PPE for safety.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- None
Required Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Good knowledge of trenchers, multi-meters, wire locators, ditchers, and pipe sizing are also essential.
- Any horticultural or agriculture classes Botany, Water Management, Resource Management or related discipline.
- 2 - 5 years of experience in installing and maintaining residential irrigation and commercial irrigation.
- Experience with well irrigation and 2Wire systems.
- Ability to create and read site maps and/or colored charts/legends.

- HydroPoint Systems
- Bilingual in Spanish
