What are the responsibilities and job description for the Staff Attorney - Housing position at Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services?
Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services, Inc. (SMRLS) is seeking to fill a housing attorney position in its Metro Region.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Staff attorneys provide a full range of legal representation for clients in cases involving evictions, voucher/subsidy/lease terminations, housing repair, and housing discrimination. SMRLS represents clients in negotiations, administrative hearings, court hearings and appeals. The attorney must be willing to maintain a caseload in compliance with SMRLS’ written practice standards and comply with SMRLS’ policies, practices, and guiding principles in furtherance of SMRLS’ mission. Staff attorneys may also be asked to take part in community education efforts and outreach.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with low-income clients, victims of domestic violence, and persons of different cultural and ethnic backgrounds is essential. Courtroom and/or administrative hearing experience is preferred. Excellent communication skills, ability to work positively and constructively with others in a teamwork setting, good judgment, and the ability to work hard, independently, efficiently, and under pressure is necessary.
Must be licensed attorney or awaiting results of July 2024 bar exam.

SALARY:
Starting salary of 80,010 DOE, pursuant to salary scale. Great benefits, including excellent medical and dental benefits.
