What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accountant I/II position at Southern Nevada Health District?
The Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) announces an examination process to create an eligibility list to fill one (1) vacancy for the classification of Accountant I/II in the Financial Services Department. The eligibility list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to four (4) months.
Accountant I
This is the entry-level and training class of the Accounting series and is distinguished from the Accountant II position by the performance of more routine assigned tasks and duties including audits and ledger reconciliation. Prior experience in some form of accounting is required. Governmental accounting is preferred.
Accountant II
This is the journey level class within the Accountant series and distinguished from the entry-level position by the performance of the full range of duties assigned including staff training, report and budget preparation, and ledger maintenance. Incumbents receive occasional instruction and work with more independence. Work assignments are more complex and/or reviewed less frequently than the entry level class.

Accountant I
- Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in accounting, business, or a related field.
- Two (2) years of accounting experience is preferred.
Accountant II
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in accounting, business, or a related field, AND
- Four (4) years of experience in accounting, with a preference in governmental accounting experience.
- Position may require specialized skills, experience, certification, or other requirements which will be identified by the hiring authority at time of recruitment.
