Position Summary
The Assistant Operations Manager works with the Operations Manager to ensure the safe, efficient management of our logistics functions. This includes oversight over the following functions: warehouse and inventory management/organization; trucks, trailers, and the transportation of goods and supplies to and from stores; salvage and recycle processes; and maintaining partner and vendor relationships. The Assistant Operations Manager is the person in charge and main point of contact in the absence of the Operations Manager.

Essential Responsibilities
- Manages and supervises the workflow and the day-to-day needs in the warehouse and with our trucking processes.
- Manage employees to ensure effective, efficient, and safe practices.
- Works various shifts including weekends as assigned.
- Ensures that continuous improvement is in process and implemented.
- Creates positive public image of Goodwill through clean warehouse environment that is clean, safe, and organized.
- Assists GoodWorks staff with implementation of work plans and guidelines as established for client programs, as assigned by store manager.
- Audit work practices, working conditions and safety measures to ensure compliance and facility needs.
- Oversee and maintain accurate inventory, quality, trucking, after-market recycling and daily/weekly/monthly reports and records.
- Plans weekly/monthly scheduling of store personnel to maximize operational efficiency.
- Completes required paperwork accurately, neatly and within established time limits.
- Recruits, hires, orientates, and trains employees; Provide feedback for performance reviews and accountability concerns.
- Ensures highest level of professionalism and uses best practices in the leadership of warehouse personnel.
- Effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, participants, customers, and the public using tact, courtesy, and cooperativeness.
- Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Safeguards company property, including donated goods. Reports any incident of theft, fraud, waste, or unauthorized possession of company property.
- Operates 26,000 pound or similar truck on pre-determined route to make deliveries and pick-ups.
- Adapt to changes in the work environment; manage competing demands; change approach or method to best fit the situation; able to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.
- Work in a variety of situations, sometimes in closed or congested areas. Includes driving in city, country and freeway driving in all weather conditions. Operates baler, compactor, forklift (receives certification), truck liftgate and other departmental machinery as assigned.

- Ensure Truck Drivers and completing pre and post trip vehicle inspection reports.
- Monitor employee conformity to safety laws and policies.
- Capable of performing all work functions performed in the department.

- Current qualifications and licensure to drive box trucks, handle hazardous waste and operate vehicles over 26,000 GVW by way of holding a valid CDL.

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 3 years’ experience with comparable duties as listed in the Essential Responsibilities and Position Summary sections of this description.
- Knowledge of basic driving regulations for state, and federal laws regarding vehicle use.
- Forklift certification preferred.
- Able to pass background checks and medical certifications in accordance with Southern Oregon Goodwill hiring practices, State, and Federal requirements.

- While performing these duties, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time; use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk and hear. Frequently required to walk and/or stands for up to 8 hours per day.
- Must regularly lift, carry, and/or move up to 20 pounds and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Ability to push/pull and carry up to 30 pounds. Kneels, stoops, and bends frequently.
- Occasional need to push heavy, wheeled carts, pallet jacks, hand trucks and other material handling equipment with loads weighing up to 250 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
- Local and regional travel is required.
- Work is performed primarily indoors in a climate-controlled space. May occasionally perform work in outside weather conditions.
