Southern University Law Center is a public sector( State of Louisiana), ABA and SACS accredited Law School in Baton Rouge, LA. The Law Center IT group provides a host of IT products and services needed to advance the mission of the Law Center and to fulfill its mission of community outreach. We are looking for Windows Server and Network support Assistant to join our team and help us in managing, maintaining, and supporting server and network infrastructure services for the Law Center.
Job Description:
The Windows Server and Network Support Assistant will be responsible for providing technical assistance and support related to the company's network and server environments. This role will require a solid understanding of Microsoft Windows operating systems, Active Directory, Networking, and related technologies. The Windows Server and Network Support Assistant works closely with the IT Network Administrator / Security Specialist to ensure that the Law Center's IT systems are running optimally and securely.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and network issues related to desktops, laptops, and servers.
- Install, configure, and maintain desktop and server hardware and software, including operating systems, applications, and security updates.
- Troubleshoot and resolve network related issues.
- Provide technical assistance and support to end-users via phone, email, or in-person.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, and access to network resources through Active Directory.
- Monitor system performance, diagnose performance issues, and implement solutions to improve performance.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, such as backups, system updates, and virus scans.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including user manuals and procedures.
- Assist with IT projects as needed.
- As the Windows Server and Network Support Assistant, you will play a key role in ensuring the Law Center's IT systems are running smoothly. You will be responsible for assisting in maintaining the Law Center's network infrastructure and ensuring that it is secure, reliable, and scalable. You will work closely with other members of the Law Center's IT team to ensure that the Law Center's technology is meeting the needs of its users, and that it is aligned with the Law Center's mission and strategic objectives.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
· Strong knowledge of Windows operating systems, Active Directory, and related technologies.
· Experience with virtualization technologies, such as VMware.
· Knowledge of network cabling standards.
· Ability to implement existing LAN strategies within the organization.
· Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
· Strong communication skills and the ability to explain technical issues to non-technical users.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
· High school diploma or equivalent; a degree or certificate in computer science, information technology, or a related field is preferred.
· 3 years of experience in Windows Server and Network support.
· Comfortable with learning and providing first-level technical support for existing and new technology.
· Ability to work with various vendors, and working with end-user communities possessing varying levels of technical capabilities.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
· Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
· Must be able to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
· Must be able to work in a noisy environment with moderate to high levels of activity.
WORK CONDITIONS
· This is a full-time position that may require occasional evening or weekend work.
· The Windows Server and Network Support Assistant will primarily work in an office environment but may occasionally be required to travel to other locations.
