Southern Virginia University seeks a full-time enthusiastic and student-centered Instruction and Reference Librarian to provide innovative and engaging instruction, research support, and reference services. Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program.
- Strong commitment to student-centered service, learning, and engagement.
- Creativity, initiative, and interest in innovative approaches to reference and research assistance.
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education.
- Strong understanding of pedagogy and best practices in information literacy instruction.
- Knowledge of the Library of Congress Classification system.
Responsibilities
- Develop, deliver, and assess information literacy instruction, ensuring engaging and effective research support for students and faculty.
- Teach research instruction sessions at various levels, including: Composition courses and introductory research sessions Discipline-specific and advanced writing research sessions Senior paper/project research consultations.
- Collaborate with faculty to integrate research instruction across the curriculum, promoting student success.
- Provide responsive reference services, discussing informational needs with students, guiding them on research strategies, and helping them define research topics.
- Develop and maintain instructional materials, including research guides and instructional videos.
- Train and supervise the student-based reference team alongside the Library Director.
- Lead library workshops on research techniques and library use.
- Assist in developing and assessing information literacy initiatives and advocate for their integration into university programs.
