The successful candidate will possess a collegial and open management style, effective interpersonal communication skills, and a knowledge of the special challenges of today’s community college students. In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of the community college mission, the role of education, diversity of thought, and the academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic diversity of community college students. This position reports directly to the President and is responsible for the overall planning, organizing, and executing of all academic functions. Provides overall leadership and direction for the Academics and organizes, administers, assigns, and delegates responsibilities to all areas of oversight subject to application laws, policies, and procedures. Areas of oversight include the overall leadership and direction in planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of the instructional units of the College, including academic divisions, off-campus programs/classes, professional development, distance learning, and accreditation and assessment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- The Chief Academic Officer/Provost is responsible for the Accreditation Liaison Officer function of the institution.
- Provides administrative oversight in areas of instructional programs, academic planning, curricula, and scheduling; instructional technology, distance learning, accreditation, and assessment.
- Monitors faculty credit hour production (CHP) by reviewing, revising, and approving faculty course loads and office hours schedule.
- Provides strategic vision and leadership for curriculum and new program development, academic policy development, assessment, staffing/scheduling for the academic programs of the College and assures timely and effective instructional program review.
- Responsible for coordinating annual review and revision of the College catalog and schedule with various functional units.
- Accountable for institutional effectiveness related to academic instruction.
- Facilitates strategic partnerships with K-12 districts, other colleges and universities, employers, and other stakeholders.
- Supervises and evaluates division deans and other identified staff and makes recommendations regarding hiring, discipline, and termination of unit employees.
- Provides leadership for the institutional accreditation process.
- Assists the President’s Cabinet in identifying, establishing, and evaluating the College's goals and objectives. Formulates, recommends, and implements strategies to meet these goals and objectives.
- May perform related work as required or assigned by the President.
