Facilities and Security Assistant

Southside Blooms is looking to add a part-time Facilities and Security Assistant to its team. 

Based on the south side of Chicago, Southside Blooms is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that is a farm-to-vase florist providing unique and fashion-forward arrangements while maintaining an uncompromising dedication to the environment and its surrounding communities. Role

As a part-time Facilities and Security Assistant, you will be responsible for the upkeep and security of our facilities and the basic care of our vehicles. You will complete basic maintenance tasks, effectively monitor premises security, and be committed to contributing to a positive, community-focused environment. Additionally, you will support the team by assisting with deliveries as needed.  

Your Core Contributions To The Team

Handyman Duties

• Perform routine maintenance and repairs, including minor carpentry, painting, plumbing, and electrical work.
• Address general repair needs, such as fixing equipment, furniture, doors, or windows.
• Conduct regular inspections of tools, equipment, and facilities to ensure functionality and safety.
  

Basic Vehicle Care Duties

• Perform basic vehicle maintenance, including checking oil, tire pressure, fluid levels, and cleanliness.
• Coordinate routine vehicle maintenance, such as oil change and tire rotations, with service providers.
• Ensure company vehicles are kept clean and ready for use.

Security Duties

• Monitor the premises and surrounding area to ensure safety, particularly when youth are onsite.
• Conduct scheduled security rounds, checking doors, windows, and gates.
• Document, address, and report any suspicious activity or safety concerns.

Event/Retail Delivieries

• Make timely deliveries for retail orders and special events, ensuring floral arrangements arrive in excellent condition and meet quality standards.
  

About You

Knowledge, abilities, and qualifications

• Previous experience in maintenance, handyman services, or security roles is preferred.
• Basic knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and general repairs.
• Ability to operate hand and power tools safely.
• Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to manage conflicts calmly and professionally.
• Physical ability to lift 50 pounds and perform tasks requiring bending, lifting, and prolonged standing.
  

All The Other Stuff

This position reports to the President and Co-Founder and is a non-exempt position.

This is a part-time position, requiring 4-hour shifts that occur Monday through Friday, including evening shifts and/or weekend shifts as needed. Overtime may be required.
