Position Summary:
This role reports to the LPN, RN, and Director of Nursing, ensuring efficient health service delivery and smooth patient flow within the service area. The position involves performing various tasks as an integral part of the healthcare team, assisting nurses and providers in patient care and treatment. It also includes supporting patients and families as a liaison between them and healthcare providers, recognizing the Provider as the Lead of the service area.
Detailed Description of Position:
Familiarize yourself with administrative and clinical nursing policies and procedures.
Work under the close supervision of the Licensed Practical Nurse and Registered Nurse.
Attend required in-service education programs, staff, and departmental meetings.
Report to work as scheduled without excessive use of sick leave.
Perform duties throughout the workday.
Maintain patient information confidentiality.
Assist with admitting patients from the clinical waiting area to the examination room.
Help patients move personal belongings to the examination room.
Assist patients onto the examination table.
Prepare patients for treatment and examination by the Provider, ensuring they are appropriately draped and wrapped.
Assist in obtaining information from clients and/or families for external medical records.
Document relevant information in the client’s record.
Obtain vital signs (e.g., blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration) and appropriate laboratory tests (blood and urine) as directed by the Provider or Nurse.
Perform vision and hearing screenings and administer First Aid under the direction of the Nurse or Provider.
Perform venipunctures, collect specimens, and prepare requisitions for laboratory and x-ray work as directed by the Nurse or Provider.
Perform electrocardiograms and/or place patients on holter monitors.
Assist clients in discharging from the clinical area.
Clean and stock all patient rooms after use.
Demonstrate infection control principles:
Hand washing
Aseptic technique
Sterile technique
Adhere to isolation procedures
Clean and sterilize equipment and instruments using the autoclave
Ensure equipment care and maintenance:
Maintain all emergency equipment, including tray and pack contents, and know the location of equipment and supplies.
Care for central supply equipment, checking for safety, proper operation, and tagging by maintenance.
Notify appropriate staff of repairs in a timely manner via email and telephone call.
Act rapidly and calmly during emergencies, providing necessary materials as requested.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Based on organizational needs, travel may be required to assist with staffing at Main Center, Butts County, Care Center @Dobbs, Decatur, East Point, Forest Park, Gresham, Lovejoy, Griffin, and Riverdale.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to relate to the health needs of clients.
Ability to read and understand healthcare terminology, charting, and medical procedures, providing care with patience and understanding.
Effective and compassionate communication skills.
Ability to perform basic healthcare procedures related to patient care needs according to the nursing skill checklist.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School education or equivalent.
Completion of an Accredited Medical Assistant Course and/or 1-2 years of experience in a healthcare setting.
Certification by the American Association of Medical Assistants, with maintenance of certification through re-examination or continuing education credits (CEU) obtained by attending AAMA-approved programs.
Typical Physical Demands:
Full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and hand-eye coordination.
Involves standing and walking.
Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 20 pounds
