SUMMARY:
The Educator is responsible for bridging educational needs with clinical performance for all staff, as well as accepting responsibilities in the clinical and administrative setting. Participates in coordinating and implementing new employee orientation. The Educator is responsible for developing and delivering a comprehensive plan for meeting the educational needs of the hospital staff to enhance, promote, and maintain competency as well as high standards in staff professional growth and quality patient care.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Updates and revises all programs and materials in regards to new policy changes, nursing theory, and practice appropriate to the organization.
- Oversees completion of competency based assessment paperwork and maintains documentation requirements of all programs.
- Develops and maintains teaching plans, records, and materials on all programs in a well-organized manner.
- Assists in conducting annual clinical competency with unit-specific managers to identify learning needs of staff in assigned specialty areas.
- Knows personal role when participating in hospital emergency and disaster procedures.
- Plans, organizes, and implements orientation programs for all levels of nursing personnel.
- Oversees and maintains Simulation Skills Lab; coordinates and instructs clinical in-services using simulators.
- Attends 80% of staff meetings and huddles to provide ongoing education and assist in issue resolution.
- Develops and implements skills training programs for all levels of nursing.
- Assists with instructing all AHA courses.
- Incorporates principles of adult learning education and applies adult learning theory when conducting programs.
- Demonstrates adaptability in learning situations.
- Follows-up on programs by observing participants in their clinical setting and their demonstrated functioning as a result of their in-service program.
- Evaluates and adapts programs as a result of feedback, new information, and/or research.
- Utilizes accepted evaluation tools and maintains documented evaluation of all educational programs.
- Consults with nursing managers in planning problem-solving techniques and methods of improving nursing care.
- Reviews professional literature.
- Stays current with evidenced based practice and incorporates concepts into educational programs.
- Keeps abreast of pertinent federal, and state regulations and laws and Tift Regional Health System, Inc. (“TRHS”) policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
- Understands and adheres to: TRHS’ compliance standards as they appear in TRHS’s Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy; and HIPAA and TRHS policies regarding privacy and security of protected health information.
- Demonstrates the ability to perform tasks that meet the age-specific requirements of the persons, patients, vendors, and staff that the employee is charged to interact with as required by the position.
- Offers suggestions on ways to improve operations of department and reduce costs.
- Attends all mandatory education programs.
- Improves self-knowledge through voluntarily attending continuing education/certification classes.
- Maintains required competency levels as identified in written exams, skills checklists, skills labs, annual safety and health requirements as well as service excellence education hours requirements.
- Cross-trains in order to better assist co-workers and to provide maximum efficiency in the department.
- Volunteers/participates on hospital committees, functions, and department projects.
- Manages resources effectively.
- Reports equipment in need of repair in order to extend life of equipment and removes malfunctioning equipment out of service with timely reporting to the appropriate personnel.
- Makes good use of time so as to not create needless overtime.
- Prepares and updates high-quality educational material, job aids, and other supportive documentation for educational events.
- Participates in unit rounding and provides at-the-elbow support in real-time.
- Participates proactively in issue prevention and problem resolution through effective use of assessment, evaluation, planning, and communication.
- Works on unit/clinic to maintain clinical competency.
- Works collaboratively with other departments to assess, plan, and evaluate education.
EDUCATION:
* Associate's Degree In Nursing
CREDENTIALS:
* REGISTERED NURSE
OTHER INFORMATION:
Teaching experiene required. BSN degree preferred. At least five (5) years of inpatient nursing experience preferred. Must maintain BLS certification. ACLS and PALS certification preferred. Must be comfortable working in computer systems. Score of 90 or above on Medication Administration tests required.
